About This File

12 maps made during the thirteenth Abyssal Speedmapping Session in the space of two hours, with 15 minutes for music and texture selection and 15 minutes for bugfixing.

Considering this session marked one year since I started these sessions, I let them other mappers choose the themes. They chose

- E4 - Abbatoir - John Romero style

Scifista42 used the Alfonzo treatment.

Woah! Look at that, an ASS that's quite good! 12 maps made quickly and with a free design, but that apparently fell into a general design inspired by my favorite episode: Thy Flesh Consumed. With a demonically gothic aesthetic, full of green marble and lots of lava, these maps prove that speed is not detrimental to good visual design. Fast and tight, the combat is intense and requires good attention, with a few bullshit maps that make us suffer a few ''jokes.'' On the upside, this is probably the most solid ASS there is in terms of consistency and quality among the first 13. Jimmy, Matt Tropiano and AD_79 are mapping wizards; their maps are fantastic, fun, flow brillantly and are just goddamn fun to play. I'd give this set a 4 if it weren't for the crappy ending, but the rest: chefs kiss. Especially recommended if you're a fan of the style and aesthetic of Thy Flesh Consumed. The Romero and McGee ink is felt quite greatly in some of these maps.

A nice ASS. Would play it again.

This is better than the average speed map set. Maps are short, as expected, but gameplay and visuals are good.

Picture this: you are playing a community project megawad and are still within the first ten levels. Some of the levels you have already played are fun but then you arrive here. Nothing bad or good and is over before you know it. The perfect level between two good levels in a megawad.
Vanillic Acid is not part of a megawad or even a level set but exhibits all of the characteristics of a filler level. It has all the base characteristics of a Doom level and fails to do anything interesting with it. This level isn't bad but in the ocean of idgames why bother taking the time to play this one?

Awesome midis. Some maps appear to be filler? I don't dislike them. I like to take breaths. My absolute favorite is Procustes Chambers (24). Replayed and re-enjoyed again. Great music!

Very worthwhile map, starts out pretty tough, then becomes more manageable, but always challenging enough. Plenty of chaingunners, Barons, Revenants etc, but the big two are absent. All it really needs is a bit more of a 'big bang' ending.

My favorites list: 10, 11, 12 and 23. Lots of city maps (I don't like them), or inspired by renowned ones.

This map pack may not aged well, but some places are nice to see.
Specially, the wharf itself with nearby buildings.
