In 2010 I released an E1 replacement for DOOM called Phobos Massacre. I was relatively inexperienced as a mapper at that time, and it really shows in the levels, which are quite bad.

I initially wanted to come back to this old mapset and just see if I could touch it up, but after looking over the levels I quickly realized that most of them were either unsalvagable, or they were in need of a LOT of work. So despite the fact that this mapset uses Phobos Massacre as a base, the content is about 75%-80% new. I've thoroughly changed each of these maps, scrapping sub-par areas and creating new layouts and architecture. In some cases, entire levels are completely new because there was no part of the old level worth keeping. Enemy and item placement has been reworked, co-op starts have been added, difficulty levels have been implemented, and proper playtesting has been done to ensure compatibility with -complevel 9.

This levelset is old-school, and as such you will break the levels or otherwise ruin the intended experience if you utilize jumping, crouching, or freelook.

I always balance my levels so that they play well from a pistol start. This often means that players who play these levels in succession will build up a large ammo stockpile, which some people gripe about. In my opinion, for the best challenge, you should try to play each level from a pistol start if you can. If you'd rather experience this as an episode, but still want more of a challenge, consider using the -fast command line parameter.

The music is mostly taken from The Plutonia Midi Pack which, according to its text file, may be used as a base for modification or re-use. The exceptions would be one track by Paul Corfiatis and one track by Graeme Norgate and Robin Beanland.

Pretty good set of maps, not perfect but def fun to play. The music felt a little out of place though. Still recommended if you want more D1 wads. -TRRobin.

An excellent Doom 1 WAD. This is another example that it's possible to make a Doom 1 WAD that isn't inherently boring. Visuals are great, gameplay is great, although difficulty could've been a notch higher.

^Uh, yeah bud...E1M9 is based on another level. That would be E1M9 from Phobos Massacre. You might try reading the text file sometime.

Lots of work, but the result is meh. Variation of about all aspects is way too low, making ambiance as well as gameplay hopelessly boring after 20 minutes or so. 2*, mostly for the effort. BTW absolutely not too difficult @ UV even with PS, and there's more than enough ammo. BTW e1m9 is for sure based on another very old level, can't remember the name, but at least the central area is an almost 100% copy.

Much good is little hard on hard skill heh but very acceptable the thing of i see thts dont make me give you 5 str is the lck of ammo sometimes i hve to use first to continue.

It's fun, until you realize you have no ammo for any weapons and you have 1 health left and you're surrounded by 50 monsters.

While the level design itself is fun, this mapset needs some rebalancing. There's a nasty lack of health given the number of hitscanners, which leads to savescumming. For the early maps, it could also use some more ammo. Would be nice to have fewer Cacodemons as well, as those are rather tedious to kill with low-tier weapons. Had fun with it, but could've been better.

Just played Oblivion,very well done,good everything.Also played Phobos Massacre,and found it every bit as good as Oblivion.Keep up the good work!

      I had raised my eyebrows when I read everything in the text file, but I really enjoyed this! It's totally adorable, all the assets were obviously hand-made with love, and the puppy is wonderful :) Just wish it was longer! I hope you do some more with this, it's definitely a welcome break. Maybe add some menu assets to really sell the idea.

      Nice details and visuals. Maybe bitt claustrophobic but that's not weakness at all and i kinda like it. Gameplay is what ruining the map. For six months of work the gameplay feel very unbalanced and bad. Lot of stronger enemies appear on a place where you can't move properly.

      The visuals of the map is rich in details, but they look somewhat erratic and do not form a solid style. Although, some of the author's decisions looks new for me. If you be careful enough, then this map may well bring positive impressions of the gameplay. Lock a player in a narrow space with strong opponents is controversial idea, but an experienced player can get good trial from fights by finding a winning strategy. In general, the map does not leave the desire to go through it again. I recommend this map for seekers of hard and challengind gameplay.

      I must say that although it is a wad of terry, I would like to find a serious one like this, new enemies very interesting and original just for their attacks, bosses that have inspired me (and you can see it in my creations) and it is really amazing like this wad despite having their terry traps is entertaining and much better than many wads of 32 levels, if you want to have something interesting to play and different as long as you ignore the story is fun filled with very good boss fights, excellent music, this is an option although if you can not stand the terry traps just do not try it   5/5 to be a joke wad   Gaia74
