About This File

Valiant is a MBF megawad for Doom II featuring 32 new maps spanning 5 themed episodes. Each map is designed to be played from a pistol start, but some effort has been made to support continuous play as well.

Additionally, Valiant includes a number of new monsters and weapons implemented through an extensive MBF format DeHackEd patch. As a result, Valiant is not compatible with gameplay mods, and can only be played in ports with full MBF DeHackEd support. At present, these include ZDoom, GZDoom, PrBoom-plus (complevel 11), and Eternity. Zandronum is also supported through DECORATE.

It's amazing that Skillsaw was able to make 32 maps of this quality by himself; that alone is noteworthy. And make no mistake, this mapset is awesome and I had lots of fun playing it. But I do agree with Getsu Fune that it has been overhyped due to the team of superfriends(Essel, Tarnsman, Dew, etc.) who have become the resident cheering section whenever one of their buddies releases a wad.

One of the best wad's of all time. If you enjoy chaotic doom gameplay done at its finest, do not miss this one.

A good quality wad with some neat maps and themes, but (like all mapsets these days) it's nothing we haven't seen loads before (especially the architecture). Not to mention it would've been a hell of a lot easier to simply use decorate for the new monsters, instead of shoehorning it all into a dehacked patch (losing a bunch of monsters and scenery along the way). I wonder why he felt the need to do that...

Everything you loved about Vanguard and Lunatic, now in a megawad. But there's more to it than that! Chaotic gameplay that makes you play fast, new monsters that change the usual power balance, impressive themes, and the great maps you'd expect from a Skillsaw wad. Yes, it's unabashedly a Skillsaw mapset, but what did you expect?

Amazing, not a single flaw here. What ever kind of gameplay or visuals skillsaw tried to create for this megawad (and he tried a bunch, there is surprising amount of variety here), he succeed spectacularly. Megawads like this one or Hellbound never cease to amaze me, it's incredible that a single mapper can create something like this.

Great gameplay, great levels, great monsters and great music. A project that is slowly but surely becoming a classic. I've never seen so much effort put into additional features and compatibility for multiple ports. You clicked to get here already, now do yourself a favor and play this thing right now.

Now THIS is how a modern Doom wad should be. Everything is top notch, no complaints here. Difficulty is alright. I love the new monsters. I'm playing on UV using Eternity source port. So much fun! 5/5

High quality work with many things I don't like (extremely repetitive visuals, most of new gameplay mechanics become "meh" after the novelty wears off, kinda lame challenges that aren't really hard and just give you an illusion of power) and a LOT of filler. The author definitely didn't have enough worthy ideas for 32 maps and he didn't exactly succeed in abandoning his overdone tropes either. But it was overall fun to get through once.

A damn fine wad. Had a ball playing this in multiplayer on Zandronum and enjoyed it (thankfully without Complex DooM since the decorate/dehacked incorporated is good on its own).

Had a blast playing through this 2001 classic on UV with saves although the last 2 maps were such a ball buster I wasn't sure if I was able to complete this wad but heavy save scumming prevailed 😅. Also I personal think Map 10 is the best Archvile only map I've ever played to where I think its better than both Plutonia 1 & 2 😈

A low-detail tunnel dungeon with tricks and traps, probably typical of dungeon crawlers. The execution falls rather flat, with too little detail and trial-and-error situations. Gameplay ends early, you don't need to go everywhere.

It's a cute first mapset by FractalXX, a mapper mostly known to be the project leader of Gridlock 64 and some other maps for other projects. The wad is strongly reminiscent of 90s mapsets and have quite good attention to detail, as well of lots of "bright colors"  in the textures usage that is rare to see in Doom maps. All maps are pretty short (the one that take me most of the time it was 10 minutes of play) and this mapset can be finished in a half hour. Best map in the pack is MAP09, but overall  a ok episode for pass the time.

Didn't impress me much. The maps are short and mostly simple, you start and you finish - that's it. Most of the maps are simply arena fights with some tougher monsters. 29 is a bit of hectic and I will say that I don't like secrets that obviously require an arch-vile jump. Maybe OK to be speedran on UV-Fast, or UV-Respawn - it's quite challenging - but for a calm player like me, who enjoys playing tricks with monsters and finds more thrill dodging projectiles than fast-killing stuff, this wad was quite boring. I'd honestly rather play Eternal Doom than this. (If I have another 6 months to spend, of course.) Let's see if Zone 400 will be more thrilling.    Yeah, I am seaching for maps with lots of fight puzzles, switch puzzles and moving around, that aren't as long as the ones in Eternal and Epic 2. Is there such a wad at all?

I think it is a great megawad to improve skill of someone who just finished Doom II. Short and fun levels with great soundtrack.
