About This File

April Fools 2015 STARTAN Challenge Project: Make a map using PRIMARILY Doom Builder's default Doom 2 textures (STARTAN2, FLOOR0_1, CEIL1_1). You can use other textures too, even custom textures if you want, but use primarily the default ones. Format, compatibility, map size, gameplay style and your effort doesn't matter. All maps are accepted unless they're malicious. Custom music is allowed, but D_RUNNIN is preferred.

It does what this mapset promised - lots of generic doom builder 2 textures and looks. Most of encouters are fun to play, until map 07 and till map 11 end. So, if you want full fill your day with startan textures, this wad is for you.

It was pretty fun til you get to Maps 7 to 11 when quality goes down the drain & the last map has no exit(?). I would definitely just play the first 6 maps & skip the rest.

I give the first six maps 4 stars. The remainder deserves zero. While wrapped around a silly concept, the first 6 maps are made by skilled and experienced mappers and they're fun, pretty, challenging and interesting. So, my recommendation is to play the first 6 maps and then stop.

      These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

      A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

      Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

      Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

      It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
