About This File

Control Center is a map I made some weeks ago, based on the 90's mapping style. Some areas might even remind you of some places in the original Ultimate Doom episodes. The theme of the map is a base, very similar to the ones in the first episode of Ultimate Doom, Knee-Deep In The Dead.

Decent oldschool map. Easy as hell even on UV. It's really feels like playing orginal doom E1.

I though it was pretty good. Definitely better than others are saying. Sure you have to alk a fair bit, but importantly, the action is well done and keeps it fun.

A mix of rooms taken directly from Doom 1. Visually, the map is decent and comparable to the visuals of the original E1. Gameplay sucks, though. You can go down a very long path only to discover that you need a key at the end and need to backtrack. Fights consist of shooting low-tier hitscanners with shotgun and chaingun. This level is boring.

I enjoyed this. It really does feel like the original game. Felt very familiar. Good looking map.

Damn, it's the mess of episode 1! Cool! My custom monsters whipped my ass, even with my current ally items. This inspires me to make more ally items. ~4/5

Level somewhere between a clone based on, and a ripoff of, E1M1, E1M2, E1M7 and E2M2. It looks and feels quite similar to the originals, and sadly adds about nothing. I have no idea who is waiting for this after 21.5 years, but as author clearly has spent some effort in this: 2*.

^ It's walk in park for relatively experienced player. No tough monsters, no deadly ambushes. Really experienced should play this on -fast even in FDA, otherwise it will be boring, IMO. Design reminds me Rex Claussen phobos-v.wad for huge spaces and some distorted proportions. /hth

Have you ever wanted to play through the best parts of e1 and some of e2 and make them bigger? Have you thought after 20 years they're too easy and you need to amp up the challenge with more imp sentries, less ammo, and rare health, then this map is for you. Its tough.

I had an absolute blast with this one, and I'm not sure what Nems was talking about with the Boom stuff as this runs in Doom2.exe with no trouble. In fact, there is a TON of impressive vanilla stuff going on here. I guess it was so well done that it tricked him.   This deserves a high score. It's a lot of fun.

      It definitely makes Doom look darker, but also slightly changes colors (it reminds me PSX Doom). I prefer original Doom colors and miss how it looked on CRT (almost same colors as with modern monitors, but less brightness and maybe more contrast).

      Great spirit/item placements, and also nice trap placements. Textures are georgeous and scream "1980's sci-fi action movie".

      Some very cool techbases with a nice texture set and pallette.  The music is pretty epic.  And it all runs in vanilla! (Or so it is said, I played it in GZDoom)

      I honestly can't believe that this whole megawad is 100% vanilla compatible and its only the first of THREE episodic megawads! Esselfortium and her team of creative energetic mappers has done an amazing job from the unique texture set, the music, the maps & even the tweaked color palette that fits the mood of the whole thing.    100% highly recommended! 5/5
