About This File

SKULLDASH OVERVIEW: Welcome to Skulldash, the fast-paced speedrun arcade mod For Doom II. The objective in skulldash is to collect the Skulltokens scattered around each level to unlock the exit.

While collecting the Skulltokens you have to race against the clock, as there is a time limit to beat – all while defending yourself from the hordes of monsters from hell.

FAST PACED GAMEPLAY: While on the hunt for the hundreds of Skulltokens scattered across the various realms, you’re having to race against the clock! Failure to beat the level in the permitted time will cause you, the player, to be splattered into many pieces.

Fear not, however, hidden throughout most levels are many secret areas containing blue Skulltokens, which add a precious five seconds to the clock.

LARGE LEVEL SELECTION: With twenty standard levels, four boss levels, five bonus levels, a giant level-hub (and a tutorial) you’ve got plenty of hours of gameplay available!

Skulldash takes you to many realms & locations, including but not limited to technical bases, aztec temples, icy caverns, in a submarine, on a series of treetops, in hell, a haunted mansion, a medieval castle, a jungle altar, high in the sky and even in space!

BOSSES, SECRETS & BONUS MAPS: Every level has a plethora of secret areas, containing bonus equipment and Skulltokens – keep your eye out if you want to go for 100% completion – when you 100% a full tier of levels, you unlock a bonus level!

At the end of each Tier (except the 1st) there is an action packed boss map. Each boss is found in an environment crafted around their strengths and weaknesses. Bosses are often accompanied by hordes of hellspawn to assist them in taking you out. Prepare yourself to face the Lava Golem, the Dark Inquisitor, the Gate Keeper & the Overlord!

this is very unique, and reminded me of Super Sonic Doom in a way. I liked the concepts and many of the maps. very replayable, too bad it needs a special version of Zand to go with it.

My apologies to the author, I finally got it to play, and it was fun.

Not a big fan of time limits, in anything TBH. Still, this is pretty fun.

This cool, like my lode runner project analysis would intended. However, I tend to hate the mario time up and go for more of the lode runner design, where it's usually countless spawns of enemies trying to get at you while you are trying to access all the treasure and keys to open the exit portal. Doesn't matter how many you kill, the money is all it counts. That way, my monster combos will work too. This inspires me to trying mapping the loder runner way. ~3/5

Too many stations, amazing music and barrels.

A puzzle focused wad that also contains action? Sign me up! That was close to my initial thoughts upon reading this file description. What this wad actually offers is long corridors and square rooms populated with enemies that are required to infight. That is the puzzle in every one of the five levels. How to cause infighting. This is more of a slaughter-lite level set than an actual puzzle wad so change your expectations accordingly.

Not canonically beauty from layout and some monster placement, but this map was a big fun for me! A level with some pretty mesmerizing places like the starting point, the raising pits, the really abstract techbase feel, the room lighting up a little when the player crosses some hidden lines in the mazes, the weird "theater" room that reminded me of Icon of Sin for some reason, the overall spooky feel, the final throne room... Great stuff. Things i've kind of disliked are the maze section (especially the skull walls one), some lift that doesn't work (the one where the... blue skull key is iirc and the one that leads to the red door) and the switch puzzle is pretty dull to understand, at least for me... the one with the numbers in the sector, then after one day i get that the numbers are correct order to solve the puzzle lol. Also that horrible teleport maze-like room after the yellow key, damn! Also, this map doesn't screw you around with the difficulty, as the previous reviewer commented this map can be compared to Deus Vult in that terms of difficulty and epic exploration, really. Just a raw 1996 version of it, but the comparison is all here imo.   Overall, a big and fun map to play for me. Cool stuff

My fave Skillsaw wad. Quite short, not extra difficult and gorgeous.

A haunting of the soul. Losing grip on reality and stumbling around your own home, lost in the gutters of your mind.
