So I see you, guys, all (except ones) in spirit wanted to build out Plutonia 3. I weren't going to wait a sequel to pl2 when someone does it. And you bursted in envy when I did it. Bfguys, as example, are tough only for you. I playtested the whole wad on NM and it's all finishable from pistol start (even map17). Anytime you encounter a bfguy, you can run away or hide, camp it (with any ranged weap you've), n waste it. You're running pl3 with brutal doom? It breaks dehacked and, of course, some maps aren't finishable without noclipping. In logics of some brutal players, it's my fault they couldn't play without cheatin.

The level design is poor, I know (but rich technically). pl3 was planned to be running on old comps (I were not gonna finish off gran's one). So I'd read your reviews, guys, there's coming (not right now but sooner) pl3 special edition, reload or smth. With no bfg zombies, as you named bfguys. The sound replacement will be removed. In the reload, se or smth, on map** you'll have archviles to deal with only chaingun, and you'll survive if u shoot accurately, it's about 86 bullets on arch. Sry for my bad English.

  • Ammo absolutely everywhere. Sometimes there are rows and rows of unnecessary Ammo and Medikits. You get the BFG9000 in fucking map02 and there's no reason to switch from it after you get it.
  • The new sounds for the Former Human enemies are atrocious. They sound like they're making silly faces for a baby when they're supposed to be dying.
  • Level design is boring and repetitive. Some of the switches are broken and you can exit the level through a few of the entrance sigils. Arch-Vile encounters are not scary/intimidating the 20th time you repeat them. No monster is intimidating when they're bunched up ass-to-crotch with 15 other monsters.
  • I can see the Rocket Launcher Zombies working if they were properly introduced and not thrown at you in groups outta nowhere. These ones suck for that reason.
  • The BFG guys can fuck off though. Extreme high speed and rapid-fire BFG shots. What on Earth was the author thinking? How are you expected to fight them without cheating? There are Terry enemies fairer than this.
  • Why do the Lost Souls sound like Lo Wang with a cold
  • Why do the Cacodemons sound like Lo Wang with a cold
  • What have the Mancubi done to deserve what the author did to them?
  • I get it, killing Barons and Cybies makes you feel like a badass. I don't need Duke Nukem or Arnie to tell me that.
  • The music is super distracting and unfitting. I burst out laughing when the Duke3D music started playing.
  • Plutonia 3? You think this is worthy of being called Plutonia 3?? Fuck right off with that. If it was called something else I wouldn't even be mad. Really the name is what inspired me to write this clusterfuck of a review.

Just by calling it "Plutonia 3" is just insulting to the Doom community.

Bad level designs, found half the songs used on youtube and had a good laugh at the music choice. Why alternative rock and why did you think Zombie was a great song for the first level? The songs about the IRA and the violence in Ireland during the IRA conflicts not actual Zombies.

 

The thing wasn't even play tested and was built for jumping (even though you can't without a source port that supports jumping) yet jumping and crouching absolutely breaks some maps. One map doesn't even have proper timers for spawners forcing you to noclip to finish it. None of the levels flow and the BFG zombies are dumb. Brutal Doom dummies them out by replacing the BFG with a plasma gun. Thank god.

 

The enemy placement is terrible with it eventually turning into archvile spam and you have way too much ammo so have fun spamming the BFG the entire time.

 

You can beat the entire map set in under 40 minutes because of the lack of play testing. Breaking this wad was fun but that doesn't make it any better.

Can't believe I've spent my weekend off to this thing. My nephew's Mario maker level is better than this. Terribly poor monster placement and stuff. If there's a Gordon Ramsey of doom community, he as well would shit on this.

Oh well, you poor thing, I can understand the sorrow of never ever getting all your time wasted on this - well, something - back. Perhaps that's why I'm partially excusing you for liking your own upload. Heh.

I am honestly baffled that I went out of my way to complete all 32 levels (with use of cheats as honestly I don't want to play legit with BFG Zombies thank you very much). Not only does having the name "Plutonia" screams clickbait on top of claiming to take place after Plutonia 2 or whatever, the whole megawad makes no sense at all. If you want to know everything wrong about this megawad, simply put: EVERYTHNG!

 

-BFG Zombies with fast speed and high health.

-Stolen Textures and Assets.

-"New" sounds that is nothing more than a jumble of garbage (Is this Russian or something?)

-Horrific "story."

-So much ammo that you are always full, so spam that BFG all you want, not like it'll be any harder anyways. Also, don't mind all the soulspheres and blue armor, you may as well turn on God mode!

-Poorly designed levels that are ugly to the nth degree.

-Inconsistent level design where all levels are big mazes that sometimes have like 10 enemies to over a hundred possessed soldiers (Yes, mostly the soldiers).

-No enemy variety at all (Where are the Revenants and Cacodemons?)

-The Mancubus now has some short range and is a non-threat essentially.

-Some levels make use of flashing lights that are an awful eyesore.

-BFG ZOMBIES!

-Pathetically easy on Ultra-Violence unless there are some cheap enemies (BFG Zombies, do I have to repeat that?)

-Sometimes I have no clue where to go because nothing is clear in some levels (Which made me use cheats as a result as honestly I don't want to spend more time in these levels).

-MAP30 is a reskinned MAP12 with a final boss slapped to it that is similar to MAP30 from Plutonia 2. The final boss is also easier than Plutonia 2, albeit you can't tell if you hit the boss correctly as he doesn't have any pain noise to tell you that you did hit him correctly.

-MAP31 is the worst map out of the bunch.

-MAP32 is easy and terrible. Also the end part of it is basically Go 4 It in Plutonia 2, except easy and just plain terrible with no challenge whatsoever.

-Too many to list!

 

Simply put, the whole megawad is horrible and is an insult to both Plutonia megawads prior to this. Play those wads and see how hard and GOOD levels are done. Both Plutonias may not be perfect, sure, but they are infinitely superior to this clickbait load of garbage. Don't play it, you'll just waste your (4 hours of) time like I did.

The design of this WAD is wtf.

 

While the levels are interesting in their obscurity (and the heavy use of bridges and transparent textures are inspiring in some places), there are so many things that makes me wtf where they thinking. Like huge piles of ammo and health everywhere, totally unbalanced, you start with the pistol and they throw archviles at you, some edited soldiers with bazookas and deadly BFG, so while you have so much ammo, you can die unexpectedly and it totally changes the balance of regular doom levels. Sometimes you run around with no enemies in huge bland areas, then an archvile and another archvile. Weird sounds, for example especially wtf, the push wall sound, a loud obnoxious toing toing toing thing. I am ok with the Russian speech, but this push wall sound whyyyy?

 

And then the name Plutonia 3, I mean anyone can just get a name and do a sequel, but I'd wish they gave it the respect it deserves.

 

I give it 2 stars instead of 1 because I still want to go through this hell and explore some of the interesting designs with transparent texture tricks (among bland corridors and colors).

I think this wad needs more improvement. This wad has got to be a joke. I mean, not maintaining the difficulty curve of Plutonia and making a sequel to it is completely unnecessary and pointless.

 

This obviously needs more work on it. Clickbait title and such. Not even worth downloading, playing, speedrunning, or anything for that matter.

things wrong with this wad:

 

-the name obviously, and the resources used. you really do not need all the sprites of Doom things all included in a wad file like this either.

-the intermission screen level names eventually stop matching up with the automap names they correspond to, and in fact repeat from the beginning.

-the level layouts overall are incredibly amateur, and the thing placement is really bad. some maps have very few enemies while having loads of other things, others have around 80 or so enemies. either way, lots of weapons and items are lying around, making most everything not a challenge. add to that a number of shootable rock walls and doors that don't look like doors and we have a very ugly mapset overall.

-most of the sound effects are from Oleg Puchkov's The Last Revenger megawad. They really don't have a whole lot of place in a megawad like this (or any for that matter).

-THE IMPS FIRE ROCKETS

-the mancubi have actually been made much weaker, their shots faze out rather quickly in front of them.

-owing back to the thing placement, that new enemy which is a BFG zombie doesn't really have a place where he is used interestingly. he's just around to be annoying more or less, rather than fun.

-MAP29's entire layout

-the vast majority of maps can actually be skipped by pressing use on the teleporter you stand on at the start. Even the first level has one like this.

Well... I just can't control myself because of the title. I like how Map03 and Map10 both have the same name, how you can exit Map03 using the entrance teleporter, how the author doesn't bother naming Map20, 22, 25 and 28, how Map04 labelled as 1.

What's up with this file name? Could anyone just upload "Alien Vendetta 2", "Ancient Aliens 2" or "Scythe 3" with no problems?? Clickbait bullshit titles that lie about being a sequel to something good should probably not be allowed. I know I'd be annoyed if someone made a UAC Rebellion 2 without even asking me and it was total crap.

Sloppy nonsensical mapping, jarring texture combos everywhere, tons of health and ammo packs given when the enemy count is around 20, monsters swearing in Russian. Just go and do something else.

      Simple and easy map to waste your time while you don't know what to do with your time. Things what I liked:
      1. Some detailings and skybox
      2. Music

      Things what I disliked:
      1.Flatness. Not much of height varation.
      2.Most of places contain cheesable fights, not even last one could destroy me, because you can simple abuse walls or strafe around areas and there are plenty of ammo.
      3.This kind of personal thing, but I couldn't see why this map requires zdoom or gzdoom. No special effects or 3d floors were used, feels more like boom format map. 

      Anyway, for effort, I'm leaving 3 stars.

      * Hell Ground Review *   Pros   - Maps are very visually gorgeous. Architecture is smooth and Gothic themed. Bravo on this! - LOTS of combat. Challenging, yet this WAD is not a slaughterfest. More on this in the “Cons” section. - Music is great, except Map 6. Oriental music just does not go well with this Map. - The best map is the final map, Map 7 – Mystery of Hell. It is HUUUUGE. Set aside your entire afternoon for this map. It has 15 secrets and you will not find them unless you have all day.     Cons   - Absolutely hated the sound effects. - You’ll get the BFG 9000 before you will get the Plasma Rifle if you fail to find the Plasma Rifle’s secret beforehand – in the previous Map. - Although not a slaughterfest, many enemies appear out of the ground just about every time you utilize the “Use” button. Many combats were close quarters – off course, AFTER the monsters appear from nowhere and/or the ground. - Map 3 (Paranoia) starts you off in a small room with 4 firing Chaingunners that suddenly pop up from the ground, each in a corner. Good luck with that. - Level 4 (Warp of Time) is a nightmare. I have played literally hundreds of WADS and I've never once “IDCLEV’ed” a map. But I did so after completing approx 75% of this map as I had enough of it. - Level 6 is just plain useless. You “free fall” for 30 seconds. Then walk (a virtual) 10 miles.     All in all, I just didn’t have fun with Hell Ground for all the reasons in the “Cons” section. I have no idea why so many praised this WAD, let alone what it’s doing in the 2009 Cacowards. I've seen much better work from the author, Alexander "Eternal" S. (aka Deadall).   It was the "suddenly appearing" monsters and the horrible sound effects that annoyed me the most, not to mention Maps 4 and 6. Considering the WAD is comprised of only 7 maps, two of these seven maps being useless is a fair chunk of the game.    2 out of 5 stars.   ~ Dylux

      Put a lot of efforts in this wad, the sector art is good. Visually, it should be a 5/5, with large city and heavy detailing, but except slaughter style(well, 1000+ monsters in UV is enough to be slaughter map I think) just not fit me, the subway/train area just a little dark(even though the lighting is good), and the tunnels to the final arena can be confusing...   It's still a nice map I think.

      Too bad the early part of map make me a little easy to get lost, and most of times, have to shoot down monsters from long distance or they'll shoot you down. The map looks nicely, can see put a lot of effort on the visuals and architectures, but make the gameplay just a little weak. I like the BFG trap because I don't afraid get killed if I'm not quickly, just wait and shoot them, and the final cyberdemon can just BFG him to fall down the pit, that's tricky! Afterall, this still a very nice map to play, just may not fit everybody, but I say whatever you like or not, just try play it atleast once.
