About This File

This is my attempt at making 9 maps inspired by one of my favorite megawads, Scythe! Each map is fairly small and should only take a few minutes to beat, but also should be fairly challenging on UV and be fun to blast through.

Difficulty settings are supported. Gameplay is classic styled and is designed to be played without jumping.

UV continuous without saves

Port: GLBoom+ 2.5.1.5 -complevel 2

Total IGT: 0:27.19

Personal Difficulty Evaluation: 0.9 (1 = Plutonia)

Personal Rating: 7.4 (out of 10)

Died twice, on Map01 and Map08.

Pretty fun short mapset. Have some interesting traps to surprise the player. I played this against some of my friends in a 20 min race, and later I finished it by my own. I like it because everything is stock, but it's not very outstanding because everything is stock too.

Solid, short and sweet, nice to look at! Really enjoyed Map 4 and ended up doing a demo of it!

Scythe, Scythe, Scythey Scythe. when has Scythe not made someone want to try their luck with making short, fun levels? Glaive is basically Scythe-lite, the levels sadly won't be as memorable as what inspired them (this may be because they don't have names on the automap) but they are genuine at heart and provide plenty of fun for even the novice players. there's not a whole lot of maps and this goes by the techbase theme, but at least Glaive 2 has been recently released on idgames, so there's more to do with those.

Fantastic design, and the gameplay is just really smooth. I love the fact that this is a Scythe inspired wad, because the difficulty rises towards the end of the wad, but the maps are never complicated. John Romero has 8 tips (rules) for designing great maps. You really nailed this one: (8. Creating easily recognizable landmarks in several places for easier navigation.)

Pretty good Scythe inspired set of levels. The only real downside is that there's not more levels.

Good Scythe-like wad. Definitely delivers on what's advertised! 4/5 since it is nothing 'legendary' or groundbreaking.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
