Man on the Moon

Despite the fact it's a single map, it may take up to 2 hours to complete it. Plenty of monsters, lots of routes to walk around, unpredictable traps, enough stuff to fight back. Basically, it's a common practice for a single-map WAD nowdays.

MBF here is used for graphical enhancements only, but I like the overall architecture even without those light scrolling effects all over the place.

The map's size is too big and sometimes it requires extra walking around to see what has changed after you've crossed this linedefs or that switch. Sometimes it's more reasonable to do some research in GZDoom Builder to figure out where you're supposed to go, rather than roam the map blindly.

After finally beating the map, you're not likely to revisit the map again. It's for 1-time play, to be honest. Also, there is no intermission text. An arduous journey has been come, so why not to show an epilogue or a short outcome? That would be nice!

Deserved 4 stars! It's a little bit vexing this wad didn't get any cacowards.

Too many enemies right away and no clear direction. I can't tell if this is the correct wad or not because of the filename being energy.wad, so I'll give 4 stars anyway.

Edit: I got the wrong wad. The wad I got is called the secret energy.

A little fun techbase with lots of cool new textures and fun gameplay! Level is kinda easy-ish but it's a good way to pass time. Good map!

what_a_trip.png   No, really, that's a pretty trippy experience. Lots of blinking lights in skies and in stairs and in long hallways, huge structures that looks both pretty anonymous and pretty foreboding, it's like the sum of what people thinks of 1994 maps. Maps are too large for the original intent of DM and are too empty and uses way too easy enemies for a decent fight (with the expection of TOOHARD.WAD that is... actually not that hard, but have some challenge from the other maps). The only good map (that actually looks like a map) is TECHNO.WAD (or RICKDOOM.WAD E1M3), is a decent techbase with a somewhat interesting design and the only reason that saved these maps from taking 1 star.   Anyway, who is Rick Kelly? Somebody famous? At least here in Doom community.

I remember playing this ages ago when it was still a WIP.  I'm so glad to find it again, it's one that really stuck in my memory (thanks @00_Zombie_00 for bringing it up in the reviews!)  Such a neat atmospheric WAD, love the tower climb concept and the slow burn of action in the map.  It turned out great, right up to the end.
