About This File

A mandala is an eastern painting or art piece, usually circular in motif with a central point of origin. It is used as a cognitive centering device for meditation. The idea is to immerse yourself in the art work, which in the process would bring you to a space where you can overcome your "demons," so to speak, and come to some resolution. When I first saw Doom, I knew it would be a perfect place to put a Mandala in... demons, resolution to higher levels and immersion.... "Man the Mandala" is my first attempt at playing with this concept. I use some eastern symbolism interspersed with some very western ones, which may or may not be obvious. At any rate, it certainly is a lot more fun and immediate than sitting in a lotus position, following your breath to point on a painting on a wall...which can be fulfilling, but is certainly a hell of a lot more work and not necessarily fun!

The author piles on BS in his readme, which is a shrewd excuse for making the level symmetrical. There are few monsters, lots of ammo, and some odd texture work. But I can understand why the previous reviewer is so weepy; the map would have been pretty decent in 1995. It's entertaining for a few minutes and a good example of how expectations have changed since then. It also appeared as Map07 in id=7797, a megawad, although it is ruined there by a useless sound replacement.

This is a wad of my childhood. I remembered everything- the circle, the outside sectors, being scared of the dark rooms.... :cries: it's like being reunited with an old friend!... only not :P. Now that I look at it, it's not detailed, nor is the gameplay very exciting, but I still like it for the hours it took from my life playing it when I was a kid. Cheers to life, and to this wad. ~Csonicgo *****

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.

What the actual f*ck is this map. I love having 4 rockets, a shit ton of bullets and like 10 shotgun shells to take out a revenant, and whatever was in that cage. Doesn't look too bad, maybe this negativity is cus im no expert, also rather unskilled at the game?

thank god Underhalls was the map that followed this mod as that level was able to remind me what actually competent level design looks like.

Not that bad, even kind of interesting find the secrets in the map! But yeah, that switches jungle is a awful choice really.
