About This File

This WAD was based on the original Ravenloft module for AD&D 1st edition. I always thought that it was one of the best dungeons ever made. Almost all internal structures were recreated, using teleports at the stairs. Some structures were ignored, some were altered, but in the main the original castle is represented here.

Only bother if you've got a stomach for oldschool WADs. I've never been into D&D, so I can't say how good a conversion this is, maybe it's more interesting to someone who's more familiar with it. A large castle with multiple floors; an aimless hunt for weapons and keys, and while some rooms evoke the imagination, most are bland so exploring the place can be dull. Also some annoying teleport traps.

A large and at times confusing level, but quite creative and some nice areas. Gameplay is decently balanced, and you'll probably find yourself using the berserk and low on health at times. Well worth playing.

Good map. I'd give it four stars, if it weren't for two things: 1. This levels HUGE, and you get lost easily. 2. A lot of similar looking rooms. 3. The music just doesn't fit. So these boil it down to three. -- 3/5

thank god Underhalls was the map that followed this mod as that level was able to remind me what actually competent level design looks like.

Not that bad, even kind of interesting find the secrets in the map! But yeah, that switches jungle is a awful choice really.

A basic and nice looking showroom type of map where monsters are trapped inside glass prisons, no exit and no way to play this with any modern source Port like DSDA-Doom and GZDoom, but works really well in Crispy Doom. It was a pleasant experience.

Conceptually not bad, it's a pretty imposing tower with some decent lighting, but no ammo at all despite having the guns and a VERY obscure way to rise up the floor in the lava pit? That's a big downer. But overall, it's ok.

Well, the map is pretty basic. The map is quite challenging, with there being 0 ammo pickups (excluding the backpack) outside of the starting room. There are also nazis for some reason. I will give it 2 stars only because this really wasn't meant to be played to be enjoyed, but rather just a example of how to build a map in DEU.
