About This File

There sure doesn't seem to be too many single- player levels being made any more. Why? Is no one playing them because after you figure out where the monsters and keys and weapons are, there's no challenge any more? Well, I've addressed that problem -- this is the first level I've seen (and I've seen a lot of them, kiddies; over 1,700 at last count) with semi-random monster placement. Suffice it to say you won't play this level quite the same way twice. >:)

Nice blast from the past when shovelware CDs were a "Doomer's" delight and an endless source of fascination(and sometimes frustration).

Relative to the tools used a good map but in no way on par with the stock maps design wise. Some nifty ambushes and clever routes nonetheless.

One of the better ones from a gone era - 4/5 1995 stars and 2/5 in respect to today.

Pretty neat level for something made in 1995. The ammo I find to be a little too generous and the enemy placement drastically varies in quality, talking about the... everything which teleports in the blue room, but there's also nice sections like the final fight containing barons, arachnotrons and even an archvile! I'll say that the several themes in this map don't work that well when squished right next to each other, but they look fine on their own. For what it's worth, it hasn't held up great but I still like it.

Semi-random placement (?), dense populated playground, somewhat challenging, It must have been difficult to run these thing in early 95. Like it.

An Epic map in my opinion...gameplay is so smartly balanced with evergreen challenging battles...visually modern for 95...another cool thing is layout/design...map feel bigger than actual.. although those semi-secrets areas weren't very impressive....

A very good early level from over decade ago, when Bill Clinton was president. Crumbs, I remember DX4s, they were a poor man's Pentium. Ah, DX2/66, the optimal system back in the first days I played Doom. Yes, anyway, the level is very good, a bit sprawling and long but great fun and surprisingly hard (it killed me! in 2006!).

Crazy level with like 7 clashing texturing themes. It was boring to play so I started skipping stuff I didn't feel like killing and died soon.

Cool early map by one of the Requiem authors. It starts off easy and gets harder as you progress, though there is a ton of ammo and health. It's mostly square, but the texturing is nice and varied. 4/5

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
