Game : HERETIC! (For a cool Doom ][ pwad, check out
mia3ufo.wad at ftp.cdrom.com/.2/idgames/
levels/doom2, or, on CIS, go ACTION/doom2 levels
/MIA3UFO.WAD)
Title : The Seventh Sign 2 (Maintenance release intended to 1) Improve ability to save game with less than 16 MB RAM; 2) Get rid of "cannot reallocate lump" error message on some systems which caused game to crash at title 3) Hopefully improve playability under the (lame game OS) Win95-- not tested yet! [see below for why] 4) Correct a minor but annoying texture bleed in secret room 5) Correct bug in "open door/stay open" in courtyard-- not my fault-- Heretic or Deth 2.5 bug)

NOTE: This will likely be my last PWAD published if I don't
get any more feedback. MIA3UFO has been downloaded by 601
people on CIS alone by 6 Sept; for the MIA_SAR trilogy,
1307 downloads! Nonetheless, I have only received 1 or 2
e-mails period. Please tell me what you think, and what
you would want in future wads.
<<Revision 1: Thanks for the feedback! Keep it coming!>>

Description:
(Insert long, elaborate story line here)

* Play Information *
Level # : E1M1
Single Player : Yes! Oh, yes!
Cooperative 2-4 Player : Yes, untested.
Deathmatch 2-4 Player : Yes, untested;
Difficulty Settings : Yes, all. I have decided to take the Book's advice.
New Sounds : YES!
New Graphics : YES!
New Music : YES! "Inevitability" by Alexander Lapidus
(Director of worldwide sales for Adaptec, maker of the VL-SCSI
Master host adapter running my HD & CD-ROM & tape drive &...)
If you like the music, you can thank Alex. If you hate the shamisen and seashore sfx, you can blame me. I "borrowed"
the drum track from a midi file (smpl8ths.mid) by Doug Tann
(via CIS midi forum). You can contact him at:

Any mistiming of the tracks is purely my own, and not a reflection of
others' musical abilities.
New Sprites : YES! Two awesome "new" enemies to fry.
Demos Replaced : No-- but check out the new textures!
* Construction *
Base : Original; thanks to the creator of
the (excellent) Doom I UAC_DEAD.WAD (Leo Martin
Lim) for the way to make the special bridges.
Editor(s) used : 1) DETH 2.5 by Antony Burden and Simon Oke;
I must say, the GO32 environment of Deth 2.5 improved
stability 1000%--> it never once crashed on me (unlike
Deth 2.0). Thx 10e6, Antony and Simon, for the best
Doom/Doom2/Heretic editor! <Just no more of *those* e-mails,
Two Tone, please!>
2) Wintex 3.4-- outstanding Deutex shell by the author
of Deutex/DeuSF (Olivier Montanuy). Music bug now fixed.
My humble thanks to the authors of the above,
without whom the Doom/Heretic universe would be drab
indeed.
Creation time : 100+ <<++>> hours. Far too long, but a man has to have
a hobby, and I don't golf (hope I don't fail my
anesthesiology oral boards this Oct because I
don't know what a 9 iron is!)
Release date : 7 September 1995 (of course) to CIS;
alt.binaries.heretic;
ftp.cdrom.com/.2/idgames/levels/heretic
<<Revision 1 finished 18 Sep 95-- fixed minor bug
and added several sounds; size compacted to improve
saving ability; hopefully runs better under Win95 now
[unable to test this as my buddies are still waiting for
Dell and Gateway to get a clue and get SIMMS for their
P133s!>>
Known Bugs : <<Revision 1: A significant texture bleed in
secret room now fixed (Keiner ist ohne Fehler).>>
Also, you may wish to turn up the volume on the
music and turn down (slightly) the sound effects
for best results.
Dedication : Thanks to my wife (Whay) & two kids (Alex & Andrew)
for their patience during my creative frenzy.
* Copyright / Permissions *
Authors MAY use this level as a base to build additional levels.
If you make an *interesting* new wad out of mine, please let me
know-- I may want a copy for my collection!
You MAY distribute this WAD in any format, provided you include this file,
with no modifications; if this is included in any commercial format
(CD collection, etc.), you MUST send me a free, complete, fully functional
copy of the final product. I insist (only common courtesy, nicht wahr?).
THIS PWAD IS PROVIDED AS IS, WITH NO WARRANTY EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED.
ALTHOUGH I HAVE TRIED VERY HARD TO MAKE IT AS PERFECT AS THE SOFTWARE WILL
ALLOW, I CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL WORK ON ANY SYSTEM DIFFERENT FROM MY
OWN (486 DX-4 100 MHz/16 MB RAM). USER ACCEPTS ALL RISKS OF USE, UP TO AND
INCLUDING VISIPLANE OVERFLOW (especially if you try no-clipping mode without
considering sector overload), HALLS OF MIRRORS, SLOW PLAY IN THE HEPTAGRAM,
BLACK PLAGUE, and/or SYSTEM CRASHES! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
<<Revision1:
SOME PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS SAVING THE GAME UNDER WIN95:
Other than messing with your resource allocation and MS-DOS mode settings,
or, heaven forbid, booting DOS, I have no suggestions. It works fine
on my poor little 486 DX-4 with 570KB free conventional and 14 MB XMS
(2 MB ramdrive not included in total...) I "compacted" the .wad somewhat to
improve "savegame buffer overflow" blues-- please remember how hard it was for
me to tear my "masterpiece" apart and redo it so that *you* could play it!>>.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
As this .wad includes new sprites, it must be "completed" with
all the rest of the Heretic sprites to function fully (due to a bug in
the ID software code). The old way (Star Wars Doom I, for example) was to
alter your IWAD permanently (or only semi-reversibly) using DMADDS/DMGRAPH.
NOW, thanks to Olivier Montanuy, I can include the freeware DeuSF to add
new "S"prites and "F"lats (no new flats in my wad) to the PWAD. So, after
installation, 7thsign2.wad will increase in size from ~1 MB--> ~4MB.
Not to worry, to save disk space, after you've finished playing, just enter
restore (or panxrst2 if all else fails) to reconstitute the old-sprite-free wad you downloaded. YOUR IWAD SHOULD NOT BE AFFECTED IN ANY WAY, but you do have a backup of heretic.wad v. 1.2 on your system or on disk or tape, no? Just in case???
STEPS:
1) After unzipping all the files in 7thsign2.wad to your Heretic
subdirectory (where your IWAD resides), just type install2 to have
DeuSF complete the PWAD with all the other Heretic sprites. The game
will immediately launch automatically.
2) After you've played the first time, you can use the batch
file 7.bat to carry out the following command: heretic -file 7thsign2.wad
Note that you should edit your batch file to reflect where you are
keeping 7thsign2 if not in the same subdirectory as your IWAD.
3) REPEATING: If you are backing up your hard drive, or just to
save space, you can run restore to shrink 7thsign2 back to 1 MB for zipping;
reinstall as above prn (doctor talk for as needed).
Live long & prosper and happy Heresies!
