About This File

My first WAD. Designed for single player mode with some nice surprises in it. Up until you get the red key it has a strange resemblance to where I work. In fact that Baron seems to be in my bosses office ;)

It's a pretty fun map, and I really enjoyed the final area. It's certainly worth trying.

Bad: Inconsistent texture themes; Texture misalignments; Some tutti-frutti; Some bare rooms; Unpegged door tracks; Final battle can be run past with ease. Good: Many tricky traps; Lots of action and some good fights; Ammo is judged pretty well. Overall: Certainly better than your average "recreation of a place I work/live at" level. The ugliness and overall simplicity hold it back, but there's some decent action, here. 2/5 -VV

This is a (very) early level, one of the first dozen or so in the archive. It's so old that the author has a university email address, at Cambridge no less. On a technical level it's simplistic, although a cut above most levels from 1994 - I assume the early uploads to the archive were the cream of the contemporary crop. There's a decent amount of action, and a fun ending battle, although you can just run through it. Good for a first level, espec. for 1994.

I presume the "CAVLAB" in the name refers to the Cavendish Laboratory, though I can't say I would have recognized it from the wad. Decent map; above average gameplay.

An enjoyable map with mixed themes, there are plenty of monsters in the last room and while you can run past them if you want, the fight is winnable for those who do not like playing chicken. Although this is similar to many office building style maps there are areas here that look different and so make this one stand out from the crowd. It is simple but fun and I would say this is average at best, worth a play you might like it more than I did 3/5.

Pretty enjoyable map, besides volume of background music. I'm just turned it off and stalk through map in silence, hunting on enemies that waited for me behind each corner. For vanilla-compatible map its very big and complex in structure. Map brings a good survival challenge for player by lack of medikits, forcing to play carefully and without haste.   I remember that i seen boxes with rockets, but not the Rockerlauncher itself. Its strange, but not breaks gameplay.   Overall, its a good example of vanilla gameplay and design.

yeah I gotta admit, this one's pretty good too. apparently it's not a speedmap, but it damn sure got inspired by a lot of hard levels we all know and love. if it attempted only to do that and make a hard level that has similar aspects to those many maps, it succeeded, even though the level itself isn't gonna be as memorable, it is still a fun, tough challenge map. hone your skills with this map.

rather oddly, this short map ends up being my favorite from Didy. it's not confusing at all at least until you try to find the red skull key, and the pacing is pedestrian. the setting of the beach and the underwater stuff feels amazing, and the preshow at the beginning plus the interior parts weren't too bad either. all in all, pretty neat for once.

well, it's a speedmap alright, but those familiar with the magnum opuses that DD has already given will obviously not like this one as much. atmospheric? somewhat. nonlinear? that's great. tough? not as much as the other ones. basically, this is forgettable by DD's standards but is still miles ahead of other speedmaps I've played.
