About This File

My first wad . Don't worry you won't have to struggle with mis-aligned textures and collaged colours, as I recently went over the thing and polished it a bit.

A hard survival-style map, with a mix of gimmicky tricks (you'll understand that as soon as you start) and some quasi-slaughter situations. What prevents this from being an actual/enjoyable slaughtermap though, is the extreme stinginess with ammo and health, and more than once you'lll find yourself in a situation where you have to trade one for the other or otherwise take trial & error kinds of risks. Also SSG is acquired relatively late in the map (in an optional area that could be also marked  as a secret, no less), making an already hard map even harder, and forcing you to plough halfway through it in Doom 1 shotgun guru-style. Speaking of secrets there are plenty of (IMO) unmarked ones. Interesting map, but frustrating to play. This would be even more so in 1995, without all the source port trickery like freelook, freeaim, decorations blocking projectiles...

P.S. Since this is a highly non-linear map, there are multiple progression paths that can make this either a resonable challenge or a chore, depending on how early you manage to access the SSG and a backpack and/or berserk pack. On my first playthrough it seems I painted myself into a corner, having to clear most of the map with the shotty. Even with much better ammo efficiency, it's still not the best strategy to try and kill everything, even after using the chainsaw/berserk first whenever possible.

First Kvernmo wad, fourth on the Cabal series, large map full of traps, I found a shortcut so I missed some of the battles. Unlike the previous 400+ monsters.

Even if this is the weakest in the Cabal series, it is still a very good map.

Even Sverre's lesser creations were pretty damned good.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
