Not the worst maps I ever played, but certainly not amazing. The design is very basic and corridory, but its inoffensive and has its fun moments. Plus I kinda like the new sounds. Starting to think I'm the easiest guy to please on the planet.

Quite amateurish mapset. Almost all layouts consist of rectangular rooms connected with large narrow corridors. Texture variation is nihil, decoration absent, ambiance more primitive than the average medio-1994 map. The amount of weapons & ammo @ UV is overwhelming. Fights are simple and there is no such thing as leitmotivs. Rated as 1995 map: not really awful, but clearly below meh. Still very small 2* because of the effort and a few shown techniques.

Stupid monster spam in ridiculously oversized rooms and corridors. It sucks.

Too many long boring hallways you have to backtrack through, and some confusing layouts to boot. I was going to try and finish this anyway but it crashed on map3 so time for another wad...

This is so fucking bad - even for it's such an old wad it's still one of the worst - makes me wanna puke!

I can't really agree with either of the above reviewers. These levels aren't that good, but they're far from the worst ever. The designs aren't always that great, there's too much ammo, some pointless Nazis, and functional Keens, but some parts are interesting. The set gets a bit better as it goes along, also.

LOL, it's painful to play and that's why it's called Painful! Stay away from it.

      Dear Doomkid,

I was involved in the design and play-test of each of these levels. Please know these were created from *scratch* and we spent our time making sure the levels were as playable as possible. We were not terribly focused on texturing, other than to give players positional awareness in different parts of each arena.

Map 6 -- Offices of Death -- Was intentionally designed to be as accurate a representation of the office we worked in as possible. Admittedly, playability was taken as a second priority. We did manage to create working "elevators" and "stairs" to give the illusion you were going up and down floors. I was pretty happy with how we did.

Considering it was 1996, and no way to simply "Google" different ideas. Your best bet at the time was to jump onto the Usenet and hope you could find a decent board with active members. Other than that, it was pretty much all self-taught.

I'm glad you enjoyed the other levels. Yes, they are old-school, big arena, style. We spent a LOT of time trying to make sure they were as balanced as possible, with escape routes, and required risks for rewards.

Excellent stuff for the mid-1990s. Lots of action, good layouts, pretty challenging on UV.    9/10

For 1995 design is ok. But is VERY short. 3 min in slow pace.  Map is easy af.

Square rooms, no details, ugly. Secrets aren't flagged as secret. Only for crappy-wad-lovers.

For 1995, not bad. Some ideas, are really cool, but they're mixed with dumb things. Texture misalignments are common. Overall I had nice time with this.
