About This File

The research station on Sirius 4 has not been responding to recent communications - ever since they reported a breakthrough on an ancient culture that is living there. They had found the beings that these creatures worshipped... It would take too long to send a ship there, but they can rig the teleporter to send a single person to the station (with a simultaneous loss of power for 200 kms in every direction) to scout the situation. Congratulations. You got the job.

Tough map, it will probably require about 3 attempts to beat. Don't save the game though, it's too small to bother with that (and anyway there's one spot where you can end up stuck).

This map is awesome. Some of the secrets are annoying, yes, and you have to find them to proceed. Be sharp! The map has some excellent innovations. And honestly, I prefer a map like this than the 'realistic detailed' ones of today that just aren't as entertaining or provocative. I encourage you to try this map and don't clip and don't cheat and try to find the secrets you need to proceed.

This is a badly flawed early level. The texturing and level design is solid , with a couple of nice touches (the cell doors, and the upside-down crate maze). But the puzzle aspects are irritating. To get the blue key you have to press an unmarked, unexceptional crate in the corner of a room full of crates, and then you teleport into a trap that requires foreknowledge to beat. The other puzzles are hardly better. The baddies are generally tougher than in levels of this period.

Another abomination in doom mapping. It's crap even in crap category.

Ugly, rectangular, not enough ammo. In one word: CRAP

Sound replacement is terrible. Sounds are very annoying. Level also is ugly. Only thing I like is sprites replacement. Kicking nazi asses is same as good like demons ones ;)

      Dear Doomkid,

I was involved in the design and play-test of each of these levels. Please know these were created from *scratch* and we spent our time making sure the levels were as playable as possible. We were not terribly focused on texturing, other than to give players positional awareness in different parts of each arena.

Map 6 -- Offices of Death -- Was intentionally designed to be as accurate a representation of the office we worked in as possible. Admittedly, playability was taken as a second priority. We did manage to create working "elevators" and "stairs" to give the illusion you were going up and down floors. I was pretty happy with how we did.

Considering it was 1996, and no way to simply "Google" different ideas. Your best bet at the time was to jump onto the Usenet and hope you could find a decent board with active members. Other than that, it was pretty much all self-taught.

I'm glad you enjoyed the other levels. Yes, they are old-school, big arena, style. We spent a LOT of time trying to make sure they were as balanced as possible, with escape routes, and required risks for rewards.

Excellent stuff for the mid-1990s. Lots of action, good layouts, pretty challenging on UV.    9/10
