About This File

A large new level for Doom 2. I've tried to create something really unique with this level. E-mail me and tell me what you think.

The visuals are simple for the most part and there are some small visual glitches, but the gameplay was very fun.

For its time, I suppose it's a good level, although gameplay isn't amazing. Finished it in 20 minutes on UV.

A classic. I remember playing this was when I began editing Doom myself.

It's OK, but no more than that. I found the gameplay only so-so. There were many far better and more imaginative wads in 1996.

This is nothing short of legendary. With great visuals, superb gameplay, and nice tricky sequences and traps, it is Michael Reed's masterpiece and one of the most classic levels in existence. --5/5

Legendary. I remember snagging this off the old PCGamer CDs back in 96. Truly one of the first great maps I remember playing, and one of the first to try and emulate a real life setting. -Scuba

I was pleasantly surprised at how fun this map was, even though it's over a decade old. Glad to see Mike still mapping with the release of The Spire 2. ***** -deldelda

This wad's a classic. Every Doomer should play this at least once. This level could have benefited from a different sky texture. The default Doom 2 sky texture looks really bad.

Heh, I didn't even know this was on the archives! Well, now I've seen it - Legendary. One of the few old wads that was a real challenge, looked good and was awe inspiring in size.

Good fun, and surprisingly tricky. It takes place in a canyon leading up to a big dam, and it's especially clever for something that uses the plain Doom 2 engine. The ledges reminded me of a similar level from Half-Life, which was a couple of years down the line.

This is definitely one of the best old wads I've played.Close quarter lay-out makes it challenging for 3/4 of the map;the end opens up and gives you room to breathe.Recommended to anyone looking for a good old school map to play.5*

Great classic style map. Not overly challenging but the exploration and progression are very nicely done. I just love big open spaces and the author really tried (and succeeded) in making this very fun to play. 5/5

Pretty old map. Successful recreation of a dam. Their main problem is its ease, but give it 4 stars.

Played great and delivered the good old Vanilla Doom map experience. Idiots complaining about it only utilizing vanilla textures or having poor gameplay can shove it, not every WAD needs to be something revolutionary or groundbreaking. If you have HOM issues, it isn't the map's problem; try using a newer version of ZDoom (GZDoom 1.9 pre-406 is what I used and I had no problems) or Vanilla Doom before complaining, ya dingus.

I think everyone's played this one, a long time ago too. A big map with great gameplay, and some intense parts that still hold up 15 years later. Excellent use of the strengths and weaknesses of every monster type. Texture use is a bit old-skool, but it's good enough. A true classic. 5/5

Great outdoor area. The rest is mostly disappointing: simple, sometimes maze-ish areas with nothing really memorable. Also you get all weapons right at the start so there is no "level up" system in the level, which sucks imo. But great outdoor area.

It's a very impressive megawad with a nice themed ancient Egypt atmosphere, with very nice choosing of textures to contribute to that theme, very nice architecture and impressive (and very risky) twist on the story going from ancient Egypt to alien spaceships, without using hi-pitched colors like in Ancient Aliens. Also, very tough megawad, if you're masochist enough, you can play it with Complex Doom and add LCA for more doses of pain.

It's okay. Quite easy due to the abundance of artifacts, mana, & health. The level design is fine, nothing special. The only truly bad part was the unmarked puzzle bookcases, forcing you to wallhump the entire library as a last resort. Otherwise it's pretty simple stuff, running around finding keys and smashing monsters. The texturing and lighting aren't fantastic but aren't noticeably bad either. The only glaring issue is that many windows just show a wall textured with the sky texture rather than an area with a sky ceiling. Yet there are perfectly normal outdoor areas. Perhaps the author only figured it out skies halfway through development? Anyways, this is worth your time if you want an hour or two of simple Hexen fun.

It's a nice wad overall, nice map design, textures and monster placement, enjoyed playing on D-Touch (GZDoom1.8) with Dude4th weapon mod.  My only complain would be the secrets, they have very few to no clues about their position.  There was a problem on E3M5 on the secrets around the squared starting room with stairs, the wall closes and let me stuck inside, had to use idclip to get out from those secret rooms.

I recently played through this continuously twice on UV. Overall I feel this is an expertly crafted WAD from start to finish. Beautiful scenery, great soundtrack, and intense gameplay. Maybe a little too intense sometimes, and with that it's probably not a WAD I'll recommend to newbies. If less experienced players absolutely have to try it, I suggest playing on the lower difficulty modes as the included readme suggests. Describing the later maps of this WAD as "brutal" on UV is an understatement to say the least.
