This is basically 1squares.wad for Doom1. If you're not familiar w/ 1squares, it is arguably one of the earliest true slaughtermaps ever released. The map consists of a very large middle area, which is surrounded by a ring of nearly identical square rooms.

There are 500+ monsters in this map, w/ almost all of them taking residence in the external squares 'ring' surrounding the large open area in the middle. There are many spidermasterminds in the middle area that torment you from long range, so I recommend taking them out w/ the plaz at the first given chance.

There's an abundance of ammo and power-ups in this map, w/ no real attempt at ammo-balancing. This makes this map a bit of a power-fantasy. It took me about 20 minutes to UVMAX, and was not exceptionally difficult - likely due to the lack of Doom2 monsters...

The final showdown pits you against 10 very angry cybies. Thankfully, the author was kind enough to provide a multitude of invulns, and there is more than enough cells in this map to wipe the floor w/ them.

Overall 3/5

The only gripe I have w/ this map is that the texture work and geometry is so basic. I would have liked to see some more variance in design. Once you've looked at the first room, you've basically seen the whole map...

The gameplay was actually quite fun, though - so maybe give this one a try? :)

Meh. Yeah, 1squares (which already wasn't great) was better.

An Ultimate Doom version of the (in)famous 1squares.wad. A true slaughter map, with hall after hall containing vast amounts of monsters and enough ammo and powerups to last a lifetime. Very fun, but it doesn't feel as polished as its Doom 2 counterpart. Not nearly as hard, either, in spite of a finale where you're pitted against 10(!) Cybderdemons all at once. And even though the layout is almost identical, the texture schemes were better in 1squares. Plays on E2M2. --3/5

This is dated January 1996. As the reviews point out, it's based on Costa Lappas' id=12327, which came out in March 1995. As with that masterpiece a review is almost superfluous - it's a square grid of square rooms, most of which are filled with monsters and ammo. It suffers from the obvious problem of only having Doom 1 monsters and weapons, which makes it easier (espec. once you get the BFG). If you're in the mood for a training version of 1Squares it's not bad.

One of the classic megawads, and the successor to TNT Evilution. I've played this several times over the years, and its grown on me more with each play as my tastes mature.   Still has a bunch of maps that got me killed in 2024, after ive finished stuff like HR and AV, and plenty of maps are memorable. Only real downsides is some of the levels have little content, showing its age.

One of the earliest Doom user maps and It shows. Despite the raw and empty design, the author take a good use of 3D space creating a small fortress surrounded by mountains, the level Is fun to play and not hard. A fancy escapade and a piece of modding history.

Third and final released map of a WIP episode by David Rager, it's more long, complex and hard than the previous entries in the series. A well made map with pretty challenging parts with a mix of monster usage, envoirnmental hazards and some puzzle gameplay. Fun but pretty harsh.

Two more misplaced DM maps without a exit like QUDOOM (that at least had a exit room, while not functional) that caught me by their file name and leave me for the bad experience in SP. Chicken is just a long bridge between a thundering abyss where cyberdemons wants to destroy you, meh. Gangstar is a more fun map sets in a big, abstract warehouse where a cyberdemon roam free trying to kill you, shotgunners and lost souls are here in this Hell corner adding more pain to the thing, enforced by semi-hidden mazes, my favorite.

This is like the physical version of the "we have X at home" meme in DM map format for Quake E1M1. Very poorly made, broken exit and missing textures here and there but at least the level KINDA resembles the original source somehow.
