About This File

Well, this is my second attempt at a pwad. I think this one is a little better than my first attempt (which wasn't that bad - toot toot!! :) SKYCITY is just that - A semi-city stuck 1 mile high in the sky. I created new textures to simulate the effect. It has all new wall textures in it as well as a new sky/floor ...blah blah.....

But, PLEASE, run the SKYCITY.BAT file so that you can temporarily put the floor textures into your DOOM.WAD file (yeah, sorry - Can't put new floors into pwads). But, the batch file takes care of it and will restore the original floors when you're done. Back it up if you don't trust me :) I included a .lmp just in case you get a little PO'd trying to find the secrets (They aren't that hard, anyway...)

Decent 1994 wad. It shows that they had more creativity than just "DARK STARTAN3 MAZE" back then. It's nothing special nowadays and it's kind of dull, but I liked it. 4/5

This is a decent early concept level, although the texturing is very bland. It has one of those "chessboard" sections whereby you have to study a map and take the right path, otherwise you get crushed like the ants that swarm around my feet. The level comes from a time when it was more common for Doom fans to have university email addresses than otherwise.

I liked it, good use of textures. 4 star material, but 5 stars for being that good and from 1994 :)

A clear improvement on the author's first effort REALM10. Not quite a city, the setting more resembles a simple techbase of sorts, and the new textures are consistently used to good effect. I didn't care much for the new sound effects, though. The progression and gameplay are both alright, except for a needlessly stupid crusher sequence. Good for 10 minutes of fun. --3/5

For 1995 design is ok. But is VERY short. 3 min in slow pace.  Map is easy af.

Square rooms, no details, ugly. Secrets aren't flagged as secret. Only for crappy-wad-lovers.

For 1995, not bad. Some ideas, are really cool, but they're mixed with dumb things. Texture misalignments are common. Overall I had nice time with this.

Aside from a couple of stinkers (I'm looking at you, maps 20 and 33), this was a pretty fun and challenging map set to play through. For the time limit imposed in order to make these maps, they're of pretty nice quality, I think. While I wasn't the biggest fan of the (in my opinion) overusage of Arch-Viles and Revenants, it was still a fair challenge.

Disregard earlier review server error caused me to download the incorrect file. So what do I like? The textures combined with the sharp lighting contrast between heavy dark and rather bright areas. What I don't like is the rather empty feeling level with large rooms and corridors filled with medium tier enemies on Ultra Violence, i.e cacodemons and hellknights, while only given a shotgun and chaingun. The issue with this is that encounters become more tedious than dangerous. I would add a super shotgun or spread out the medium tier enemy placement. The level detailing leaves a lot to be desired with the large empty grey rooms/corridors reminding me more of Half-Life than Doom. With some more detailing and better monster/weapon placement I would rank this higher but as it stands this level leaves a lot to be desired.
