About This File

Six sick levels, designed for maximum disturbance of your conscience. Journey through the gates of Hell and locate the spawing portal of all evil and destroy it. Dark and similar to Hexen in texture choice and level design, and only truly evil characters were used(no wimpy former humans and shit!). Mostly medium sized levels that have a sort of gothic but hellish vibe to them. If you like levels that are visually clean and cool looking then this is the PWAD for you.

The Levels:

Level 1: The Gateway. An innocent looking library contains some very dark secrets. Mostly a gateway to hell.

Level 2: The Sentry. The entrance to hell is guarded by a pair of hideous demons. They are not happy about your arrival.

Level 3: Shrine of Sacrifice. A large temple contains the secrets to penetrate the bowels of hell.

Level 4: Four Agonies. Central courtyard with four temples of satanic worship. Only the strong will survive to continue through the next portal.

Level 5: Dark Fortress. A foreboding fortress contains the most hideous creature you will ever see(well you have probably seen it before:)

Level 6: Hellspawn. You have found it - the place were it all began. Now you must seal it off and escape before its too late.

These levels are pretty much supposed to be for expert level players(the last three are pretty hard anyway) and they are all designed with DM in mind except for the first level. Skill level three is the best(but pretty tough). If you like these levels, try out my Hexen five level hub 'Necros' which should be done soon(I kind of stopped and did this Doom thing for a while)

Pretty mediocre mapset. Visuals are alright, if repetitive / underdetailed (although that's understandable for the time). There are some "new" textures (rips & edits from Heretic & Hexen) which fit alright. No new music though. Gameplay consists of boring switch hunts and pretty damn easy combat. Meh.

Pretty good. The combat was fun and design wasn't bad at all.

Despite its age, nice details and well designed. Way how blue key is hidden is really clever. But map is dark and cramped. Enemies are only imps and hitscanners.

Pretty good map in E1 base style (except Doom2 monsters) Nice design but there some texture alignment issues.

Despite the browns and grays that are prominent in this megaWAD, I found it to be fun. I also found it to be quite the challenge. The first map gives you a taste of what to expect in terms of enemy encounters. The author makes good use of mid-tier enemies to apply pressure on the player. Monster count for most of the maps barely breaks the 150 mark but, as said before, the use of mostly mid-tier enemies puts pressure on the player. I also like how the megaWAD handles level progression. Most of the levels you go through consist of caves, cities, islands, and tech bases in space. In fact, there's only one real Hell-like level and even it's within the confines of the moon base you fight through in maps 21 - 30.   About the only gripes I have with this megaWAD are with regards to maps 32, 29, and 30. I know the text file and map 31 give warnings about map 32 but there really should be some kind of alternate exit in map 32 instead of trapping you in place if you don't pass one of the puzzles. I wasn't a fan of how close quarters the IoS fight was in map 29, especially since it can get cramped quickly with monster spawns. Finally, the randomization of what keys spawn during your escape in map 30 isn't fun either. 10 minutes seems like plenty of time but between navigating the vent system (again) without light goggles and dealing with mid-tier enemies, that 10 minutes can get eaten up really quick.   Overall, it's still a fun megaWAD. I'd recommend at least giving it a shot.
