One of the first wads I played when I got into Doom in the late '90s, and I remember thinking of how awesome some of these levels were. Nowadays maps of these quality are quite common but still some of them (3, 7, 10, 12 come to mind most) stand the test of time amazingly well. All of the maps are acceptable, even if some border on ugly. A very good wad, arguably a classic. Would probably be a true classic if the other 8 maps were just as good. One not to miss anyways.

Yep, this was one of my first PWADs too, apart from the Aliens TC. I remember the first map with the Hexen red sky and the Metallica midi, oh how long since we've changed hehe. 5/5

Long time I was dissapointed by map01 (hate "my home" style levels with lots square rooms, boxed beds and stinking wc-pans) and not played this wad any further. That's a mistake! In overall, it is very solid wad, in true-good-old doom2 style. Maps 07, 08, 09 are just beautiful. **** /hth

I remember playing this along time ago. Unfortunately, some of the levels didn't age too well.

The more unusual the levels get, the better the architecture is, but in the generic base levels it can get pretty drab. However, map01 and map03 are brilliant maps that must have been very difficult to optimize for Doom2.exe. The music is awful, but you'll be too busy gawking at the skyscrapers to notice. 4/5 --Woolie

90% of the maps are crap free and very good to excellent. Only a couple pissed me off, mostly because of excessive and confusing teleports. And if you're just after a basic Doom blast, it's probably best to avoid the secret levels. You can always warp to them later. All they really have is retro novelty value and that wears thin in about 3 minutes. Not much good for actual play. Other than that, highly recommended AND it's vanilla friendly.

Very impressive adventure maps.  I like how the levels unfolds like a geometric strip-tease.

Lovely puzzle-centric map that was a little more action-packed than I remember. Progression made sense and I didn't find myself wandering for too long without finding some way through the level. If you get lost in this level the automap helps a lot and gives some hints as to where the next area to explore might be hidden.

great visuals and atmosphere, levels can actually be done quickly. custom monsters and ambushes are fine. I wish the boss map was a bit better to understand though, since I took like 15 minutes to figure out how to lower the barrier before figuring it out.

map by map reviews are fun...   MAP01: yes easy map, but also rather tedious to max due to the infighting that you pretty much have to rely on once the arch-viles are gone. also a BFG-only map, which despite there not being basically any other weapons you really can't kill everything with anything else.   MAP02: I fucking hate platforming of this kind, especially with the ceiling bits making it even more so. when the combat is there it's pretty good. the trap room was very devious and nasty too. otherwise a forboding map.   MAP03: no real tedium thankfully and nice Ribbiks-like setpieces. only problem is the reliance of voodoo triggers when I pretty much clear out most battles quickly. best level of the set.   MAP31: the revenant wall is fun.   MAP32: this and the previous maps were treated as bonus maps. I had to god-mode this one entirely and even then it's tedious. why didn't half of those revenants teleport #OCDtrigger   one of the reasons I really don't like the slaughtermaps of this kind is just since I always aim to kill everything and get everything as quickly as humanely humanely humanely possible, I'm spending minutes killing cyberdemons on the floors of the maps and it takes up way too much time. and if that isn't much of a problem, in that I can take out the setpiece quickly enough, having to wait for the lock-in to finish lowering or something like that bores me to death. again, spending minutes waiting is a problem. maybe my mindset shouldn't be to rush through everything, but I like that kind of playstyle. it's just all that waiting, man. and the potential tedium of having to face big monsters in a scenario that takes much longer than it already is. now feel free to ignore this, or me.
