About This File

DOOM95.EXE will work with any DOOM or DOOM2 main wadfile.

With DOOM95, you no longer need to keep your main wads in seperate directories. Copy all main wad files (DOOM.WAD, DOOM2.WAD, PLUTONIA.WAD, TNT.WAD, etc) to the DOOM95 directory and launch DOOM95. To play, choose the appropriate wad file from the launcher and then start the game.

Im pretty sure quite a few of us (Like me) used this port before discovering other ports. Man....this port is about as close to normal doom you can get on windows.d Definately should be an automatic 5*

this is the wad that replaced the original doom.exe engine and subsequently made it unavailable to mainstream distribution. the fact that i cannot have THE ORIGINAL FILES without either trusting that someone's disks still work or that i may find some other means is the sign of only one thing: that this is the scummiest thing to have ever happened to the world of doom... ZERO STARS

Doom 95 was pretty good for running Doom natively in MS Windows back in the day (I'm talking '95-96). Modern day computers (anything 2000+) will likely have lots of issues running this smoothly so use something like zdoom (port with lots of new features) or chocolate doom (if you want to get a 'vanilla' DOOM experience) instead. This might have some nostalgic value, but otherwise it's hugely outdated.

Yuck. I had this when I got Doom Collector's Edition and hated it until i discovered source ports. I want to puke at the site of seeing this old nightmare again. Though it is useful to have on the site, so I give it a 2/5 instead of none.

I thought Doom95 was ok. It comes closer to the original Doom than any other source port I've used, but it still doesn't feel as authentic as just running the original DOS Doom. Also, it won't run most of the PWADs I like. 3/5

Like the Doom Collector's Edition, this will not run on Windows 7. +0 stars for being too antiquated to be useful to anyone who has a PC manufactured in this century.

I got this with Final Doom when I bought that, and it was so crappy that I rather played in Dos on low res. 1/5 Kristus

Downright unforgettable, but obsolete now. When it comes down to the classic keyboard experience, Doom95 deals this in spades (if works that is). You can fix that with a mouse patch nowadays I believe. The Doom95 loading screen is something outta this world. Cyberdemon, bunny, Baron of Hell, Cacodemon, Giant Red Number 95, and yours truly. Haha.. *grumble* 'nuff said. Use something else if you want to record demos.

I grew up with doom95! And when i got interested in it again, i got interested in modern source ports, too, so doom95 helped me into the modern source port world.

Do not play this in ZDoom-family ports. An incompatibility with Boom breaks progression. There is a cool effect where a tech column barrier blocking the way to the red key basement is "disappeared" by what I believe is a short-lived scrolling floor effect; this should happen after handling the Hell knight teleporter chamber in the northeastern wing that comes off the main yard. I verified the correct behavior in Eternity after banging my head on the wall for at least a half hour if not longer; this is probably the source of the frustration felt in the comment dated 3/27/07 and the anonymous comment where the player knows where the red key is but can't access it.

This was fun.  Map19 was the highlight.  Map02 sucked balls.

I think it's made not for playing because it's unplayable.

Does it have a lot of details and some creative Boom scripting? Absolutely. Is it actually fun to play? Absolutely not.
