About This File

It's after your last disaster with the demons. You've conquered the first world, A Dark Day in Hell, now you've come upon a whole different batch of demons... The forces of the Incubus. They're much stronger than their predecessors, but you've got something in store for them...

Yet another newbie stuff from Jeremy Wagner. This is however superior to its predecessor, but still not great. We now know that the getting-stuck situations are deliberate. Here's a hint: whenever you see a room with two switches, save. One of them is bad and will shut your progress.

I must commend the author for adding HHE and custom sprites though. The HHE is interesting because it replaces the Ethereal Crossbow with an Ice Crossbow, which in good Raven tradition fires fragmentation shard projectiles (the ones fired by the Iron Lich), and they work perfectly with the player. It also makes the Crossbow really powerful on its own. The only port I know which can load HHE is Chocolate-Heretic. Use

-file incubus.wad -merge sprites.wad -deh hack.hhe -hhever 1.2

to run it.

Unfortunately the mod is really not stable and is prone to crashing Chocolate-Heretic, so it only gets 1 star. Sorry. Without the crashes it would have got 2 stars for the modding effort, because the level design is still bad.

(tested without the .hhe patch) Strange episode, new graphs are odd (seemed to be done with MS Paint), difficulty don't appear to be balanced. And I don't really like levels where you can be trapped (i.e. blocked without being dead) intentionnaly somewhere if you don't be careful. 1/5. ~Naan

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
