About This File

STRAIN is THE largest DOOM II Total Conversion. And it's FREE!

This is the product of our painstaking effort at a true successor to DOOM II. We hope you'll agree that it is much better than 90% of all those $50 shovelware first person shooters that wish they were DOOM!

STRAIN includes 32 new levels, all new music, and a complete story which carries through the levels. It also contains 100+ new textures, and many new baddies, weapons, graphics, and sound effects. Yes, that's right: new baddies and weapons!

Designed for single play with special support for co-op and deathmatch play. All difficulty levels supported - from beginner to DOOM god.

Please visit our web site for more info and the story!

An extremely good wad! You have to be stupid to hate it. It has tons of new enemies, sounds and music.

STRAIN is better than REQUIEM whichis a far better stuff than original DOOM 2 itself. In simple words, it is the best wad I have ever tasted. Though presence of invisble holobot and absence of mancubus are pricking facts about it.

Some of the new graphics are not impressive and the weapons are horribly unbalanced. The demon lord is cool though.

Best megaWAD ever! I haven't seen a better one yet. Though the music is an extreme high-point, all the other parts keep even-pace with it. Excellent in EVERY way. If you haven't played this, then you haven't played a megaWAD. I gave 5 stars; should get 7 or 8 or 10 out of 5 stars though.

How to install on Windows 7 with DOSBOX: Download and unzip the file. In a Windows command prompt type: copy /b strain.001 + strain.002 + strain.003 + strain.004 strain.exe Then copy the strain.exe to a DOSBOX folder. Run the strain.exe in DOSBOX (self extractor). Then run strain.bat, choose install, enter the path of doom2. Then choose Play. gg 5/5 dwrTag

I don't get that shit extracted, sorry. It always tells me the files are not in the directory to unpack and after a few tries I gave up at that shit. Just unpack it already before distributing. Thanks. - 0/5

In terms of originality and fun, this classic wad has them in abundance. An absolute gem and a personal favourite of mine. The style and the new weapons and monsters were just so unique and ahead of it's time. This gets the full 5 stars easily. -TRRobin.

Like Memento Mori and Requiem, except with more new features. Since there are a number of levels I am not a huge fan of, it only gets a 4/5, but on the whole the quality is relatively good. If you want a TC megawad by many authors, this is a good one to download - however, if you just want 32 levels by various authors, I'd go for Requiem and MM2 first (although not necessarily MM1).

Here is another link to the unpacked Strain PWAD. This .ZIP also contains 'Strain_Jive.wad' and 'StrainFix.wad', a recent port-fixed version. http://anjbi.com/doo m/winstonsmith6079/S trainFix.zip . I've recently played and completed Stain at skill 4. WOW! What a game! :-)) 5/5 of course. ---WinstonSmith6079

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.

What the actual f*ck is this map. I love having 4 rockets, a shit ton of bullets and like 10 shotgun shells to take out a revenant, and whatever was in that cage. Doesn't look too bad, maybe this negativity is cus im no expert, also rather unskilled at the game?

thank god Underhalls was the map that followed this mod as that level was able to remind me what actually competent level design looks like.

Not that bad, even kind of interesting find the secrets in the map! But yeah, that switches jungle is a awful choice really.
