Description : This is the first level out of
a thrirty-two level megawad
by Michael "Prower" Reid (me).
The Seventh
Time goes by slowly when you're on the job. At least when you have a
boring job like yours. You monitor all outer space activity for UAC Security,
to prevent outbreaks of monsters which have happened before. You have never
fought in a war, though you are trained to take care of a couple of monsters
if they get to Earth.
The problem is, you know that UAC knows no monsters are able to come
threw. They could care less about what you do on the job; it is only required
by the government that UAC has a minimum of one security guard. If they don't,
then government funding will be cut.
That's why they hired you. You just lost your job, and you were desperate
for money. They knew that they wouldn't have to pay you much for you to do
your job. And that leads you where you are today. Sitting in an office, with
a couple of communications devices and a radar system on the roof which
monitors extraterrestrial activity.
One day, you decide to skip off the job. UAC wouldn't care if you did,
anyway. The problem is, the extraterrestrials do...
Three hours after you're supposed to start working, several flashes go up
in the sky. "Nothing unnatural," you say to yourself. After all, it is the
Fourth of July. And you are in Central Park, New York City, New York. So
why wouldn't there by some fireworks in the daylight?
The aliens couldn't have been more happy with the scheduling of this. Two
hours after you see the flashes, your office cell phone goes off. You reach
into your pocket, and calmy start talking.
"Hello?" you say into the speaker.
There are a couple seconds of static, then you hear rhythmic pounding. Your
boss speaks quickly and with a tone of voice in which he sounds like he is
crying. "Help!" he moans loudly. "Aliens have landed at the research center,
and -" A sound of a door being busted down interrupts your boss. There is
flesh-tearing, biting, and scratching to be heard over the phone. A couple
seconds later, there is dead silence on the other end.
Level 01 - Launch Gate
You turn around towards the airport. You hear several people running
and screaming. You look up to see an airplane get shot down by alien missles.
You can't escape. You're trapped in New York City, your neighbors and
strangers blood-craving aliens. There is only one last hope for your escape.
The Launch Gate.
The Launch Gate was built fifteen years ago, in the year 2013. The plan
was that the Launch Gate would allow access to any place in the universe.
The entire city of Madison, Wisconsin volunteered unanimously to test the
portal. A horrible thing happened. The engine malfunctioned, sending the
population off to the far reaches of the universe. With only .3% of the
universe known or explored, chances are the residents of Madison will never
be found.
You know that the only place the Launch Gate can't take you is within
a light year of where you are transported. It's your only hope of surviving.
You run over to the Launch Gate and look at the steps. It is littered with
bodies, some half-eaten (as you can tell from the bite marks). You grab a
pistol and some ammo from a dead man.
"This is for Earth!"

Notes:
I've included a DMTHA 1.05 analyzation within the .ZIP as PRWRSVA.TXT. DMTHA
is a program by Yonatan Donner (http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/4704/)
which takes the thing data from a wad and analyzes it. It is very useful for
wad authors, as it can tell the health/monster and ammo/monster ratios.
This map is rather short (the fastest I got is 2:07, average is about 2:13),
I'm sure an expert DooMer could be it under one minute with 100% K'n'S.
There are no secrets in this level! The large area near the blue key is
marked as a secret, though.
As a little challange, try getting the health at the end of the level without
going through the exit. This will serve useful in later levels of "The
Seventh" when the medikit increases to megaspheres and BFG's!
Hope you enjoyed this wad!
