About This File

Phobos is a 4 level pwad set under a spectacular Phobos sky with Mars, the Red Planet, looming malevolently on the horizon. It loosely follows the story line of the first 4 Doom I levels but with larger, more spectacular, more challenging levels. Briefly, the levels are as follows:

HANGER: You will discover a spaceport, complete with ticket counters and boarding gates that will have you boarding the next flight to get the hell out of there!

NUCLEAR PLANT: This is where the electricity to power Phobos Base is generated. It is complete with nuclear reactor, steam generators, fuel storage pools, turbine hall, switch yard, and nuclear dump site. Your opposition will not want to let this place go!

TOXIN REFINERY: UAC had an industrial chemical plant at Phobos Base complete with fractional distillation towers, chemical reactors, storage tanks, and control center. Your opposition has taken it and subverted into processing evil toxins!

COMMAND AND CONTROL: This is the control center for the entire Phobos Base and the surrounding space of the Mars planetary system. This may be the place where the hellspawn of your opposition first invaded and decapitated the command and control structure for the entire Mars planetary system. They entered clandestinely from below!

DON'T PLAY THIS. Download the enhanced version, Pleiades (http://www.doomworl d.com/idgames/index. php?id=10625), which features several "prequel" maps, where you fight through starships, space stations and other planets before reaching Phobos.

My favoritested WAD ever!!! 4 levels with the names of the 1st four stages of Doom, but this time the author tries to build very human like maps according to the names, like an airport, a nuclear plant, a tower, with lots of architecture and great details!

Incredible as Hell and 100% doom2.exe compatible. Attractions include going up on a 3d boom style lift up a fully 3d multi floored control tower, fake 3d floors made by using a black floor/ceiling texture cleverly, a plane that takes of (You can even walk under it after it starts going up to simulate 3d), and many amazing things. If you don't find this amazing then you don't belong at doomworld but at PlanetHalfLife.com Da Five Outta Da Five -Dron

Ass kicking! Groovy realistic feel - power plant really looks like power plant, and stuff like that. Check this plane in spaceport, power lines near power plant and tower with yellow key and elevator on it(on tower, not card:) on last level, unbelievable. And bathroom in office area, there is even hole in the wall between mens and ladies :) Hard to believe that its doom2 compatible. Damn impressive, but there is one strange thing. Why nazis are guarding entrances to factilies on phobos? :) 5/5, -- Brun ohn

Phobos is one of the best "realistic" wads out there. The visuals are great, the fake-3D tricks are impressive, and the gameplay is challenging. While the author's fetish for dark, cramped caverns appears once more, thankfully it doesn't ruin the wad like it did in Earth. 4.5/5

Amazing level design! It's a shame that the sky textures fuck up in the latest version of ZDoom.

No GP problems for me, and this is most certainly a fabulous attempt at making Doom realistic - a classic indeed. But where's the other 32 maps?

This looks more realistic than modern mods, the levels convey a sense of story, and follows the first episode of doom! Beats KDIZD any day.

These maps are AMAZING! If you ever wondered what Knee-Deep in the Dead would be like if the levels actually looked like what their names imply, and there's Doom II monsters, then this is better than anything else is.

Remarkable for it's time period. Very interesting areas too. Why don't today's mappers map on this grand of scale while maintaining detail?

Awesome architecture, awesome level design and often superb enemy positioning. Most importantly, and the biggest point i have to stress, is that it's very fun and interesting to play. My only critisism is that the last 2 levels appear slightly less enjoyable to play. --- 5 Stars.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.

What the actual f*ck is this map. I love having 4 rockets, a shit ton of bullets and like 10 shotgun shells to take out a revenant, and whatever was in that cage. Doesn't look too bad, maybe this negativity is cus im no expert, also rather unskilled at the game?

thank god Underhalls was the map that followed this mod as that level was able to remind me what actually competent level design looks like.

Not that bad, even kind of interesting find the secrets in the map! But yeah, that switches jungle is a awful choice really.

A basic and nice looking showroom type of map where monsters are trapped inside glass prisons, no exit and no way to play this with any modern source Port like DSDA-Doom and GZDoom, but works really well in Crispy Doom. It was a pleasant experience.
