Nice try on recreating SoD from Wolfenstein 3D. The only problems I have with it is that the music is placed wrong in some maps, you can't get pass through the lamps (unless you load the DEH file) and the bosses don't drop any keys.

So have 2 stars

Regarding the missing keys, using DOS SOD.exe, the boss on death drops the key.

(this review will encompass Spear of Destiny, the Original Missions, and the Nocturnal Missions, as the latter two are not on the archives, possibly because of the resources or something)

these three WolfenDoom sets are as close as you can get to the original Wolfenstein, no added enemies, no changes to layout (apart from a few windows, lifts, things that aren't too important), and the gameplay is just as tight as the original games. it's sort of like playing the Wolfenstein 3D TC, EXCEPT that the gameplay is closer to Doom than Wolf3d, due to having dehacked changes to multiple Doom items (note that some of the reviewers below mention that lamps and other things obstruct progress, that's because they don't load the dehacked patch). for Spear of Destiny, you're getting just fine experience with the gameplay at the cost of not getting a key from the boss drops, the same for the original wads in Original and Nocturnal Missions, which I believe is the only actual problem with these three.

NightFright's ZDoom compatibility pk3 of course fixes all this, so the gold key will drop properly upon killing the bosses who have them, but also makes the enemies and weapons much closer to their Wolf3D counterparts as well. it's still fairly rough around these edges though, for example there's mancubi outside the maps in Episode 2 while Episode 5 has robed Hitler clones outside the map as well. I know that Laz originally intended for unused enemies to be used as ambience, but some of these weren't fixed or perhaps were mistakening put in. also some rooms I know of that had enemies or items in the original no longer have them. Spear of Destiny's pk3 even enhances the hitscanner health yet again, which I still don't like, plus both forms of officer (the one that functions like a shotgun guy reskin and the more default one that Laz uses which is a chaingunner reskin) are somehow in here. there's less open fields in Spear to really ruin it though, but it's still a tough and challenging recreation. and that goes for the rest of the sets that most closely resemble Wolf3D's core values.

The previous two reviewers are stupid. This is a recreation of Spear of Destiny, so complaining about the fact that it's like SoD makes no sense. Within the limits imposed by DOOM/DeHackEd, this is a great recreation!

It was okay, the maps were well done, but the thing that annoyed me was the hanging lamps you couldn't go through which hurts this TC. Plus the sounds were placed at random cause some of the guards didn't have the exact same quotes from Wolf 3D, it just felt like they were randomly placed. 2 stars for effort.-Candle M

Just like 2nd Encounter -- you drown in ammo, and you get bored. Then you get to Map05 and you find all ten secrets but no gold key that's necessary to exit. Bleargh.

Good job of recreating the Spear levels faithfully. But... what's the point?

I'd have given this 5 stars, except for the lights obstructing progress (fixed by loading the .deh file) and the fact that the bosses do NOT leave a key behind as they should (NOT fixed by anything I could think of), thus preventing you from finishing an otherwise excellent game. Finish the job, Laz.

This means nothing now since I have WOlfenstein TC. Next time, fix the lamps. Don't make them impassable.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
