Russian scientists reach Lake Vostok

Recommended Posts

So they finally finished it. I remember they stopped due to the risk of drill bit contaminating the water with it's oil.

I think they planned to use a self-sterilizing robot to take samples.

Took them 20 years. That's some thick fucking ice.

Yeah 20 years to drill just over 3 miles.

Wait until someone wants to drill down to the oceans on europa and enceladus. Both have approx 50 miles of ice cover.

Multiple anti-bunker bombs will do the trick. We have bombed Moon after all. That's how we'll start war with the aquatic natives too.

Hmm, a lake buried under a three mile thick ice sheet. This sounds like it will be amazingly interesting to explore. I'm assuming the exploration will be automated, but ugh, the idea of this tiny hole and deep lake is making my claustrophobia act up.

This should prove to be interesting, I guess. Maybe it'll be as interesting as when the Russian's drilled into hell... :p

Haha, I remember that. I always thought it sounded more like someone left a tape recorder going in the hallway outside of an echoy auditorium.

I think Hell is a very very quiet place. Like, remoteness from exactly everything you can possibly imagine. Complete darkness, or lack of light to be technical. But please God damn it, don't take me to Limbo.
