BouncyTEM Posted February 6, 2012 Primarily reposted from zdoom, but it's relevant here too, so. :3 The idea for it is simple; make a sound project to replace every single sound in doom with new, similar, but different ones, edited by yours truly! They will all be in mono at 44100hz. The various previews I may put up will be in stereo, however. <I may also make a 22050hz/11025hz version for vanilla? Dunno yet> These sounds will be free for anyone to use in their own projects as long as I'm credited. :3 I'm also hoping this will diversify the soundscape of doom mods somewhat, to add a third set besides original doom's and doom64's. These might be useful for custom monsters and weapons and such! That's the idea, anyway. That said, let's hear some awesomeness! http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3238714/gun.mp3 <- DSPISTOL replacement. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3238714/switch.mp3 <- DSSWTCHX and DSSWTCHN replacement. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3238714/DSDOOR.mp3 <- DSDORCLS and DSDOROPN replacement. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3238714/fastdoor.mp3 <- DSBDOPN and DSBDCLS replacement. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3238714/shotgun.mp3 <- DSSHOTGN replacement. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3238714/DBShotgun.mp3 <- DSDSHTGN, DSDBOPN, DSDBLOAD, DSDBCLS replacement. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3238714/explosion.mp3 <- DSBAREXP replacement. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3238714/elevator.mp3 <- DSPSTART, DSSTNMOV, DSPSTOP replacement. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3238714/teleport.mp3 <- DSTELEPT replacement. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3238714/punch.mp3 <- DSPUNCH replacement. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3238714/DSBFG.mp3 <- self explanatory. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3238714/DSRXPLOD.mp3 <- self explanatory. Blastfrog Posted February 6, 2012 These are pretty awesome, actually. I tried something similar years ago, but it never really got anywhere. The chainsaw sounds in it were actually pretty good, wish I still had the WAD... Eh, regardless, this is better than my attempt was. 0 Share this post Link to post
Phml Posted February 6, 2012 I don't get the feeling the door closes in the second part of the slow door sound. The difference is obvious if you listen to it like this, but ingame with all kinds of different sounds, music and player attention being divided, it may not be distinctive enough. Everything else is pretty neat. :) 0 Share this post Link to post
BouncyTEM Posted February 6, 2012 You can definitely hear it fine in-game. Each sound I have linked to here I've already tested in-game first. :) Thanks for your note, though. It's a valid concern! I may tweak it further though so it's even more apparent. Should satisfy everything just in case. :3 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Posted February 6, 2012 I thought the single barrel shotty blast sounded a bit thin and metallic, but the other sounds were all really good. Me likey. :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Avoozl Posted February 6, 2012 This inspires me to upload my own personal weapon sound mod. 0 Share this post Link to post
Kira Posted February 6, 2012 I love that shotgun sound! How did you record them BTW? 0 Share this post Link to post
HavoX Posted February 6, 2012 That's a great idea. Maybe I should use them for my prooowhoops, don't want to talk about it now. :P 0 Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted February 6, 2012 Bouncy said:<I may also make a 22050hz/11025hz version for vanilla? Dunno yet> I think vanilla is fine with 44100Hz. The limitation is that it can only be 8-bit mono; but the sample rate isn't explicitly limited. 0 Share this post Link to post
PRIMEVAL Posted February 6, 2012 Shotgun sound might be a bit fast compared to the sprite animation, but I really love these sounds! Maybe I'll use them soon ;) 0 Share this post Link to post
MSPaintR0cks Posted February 6, 2012 Wow, it`s like you have read my mind yesterday. I was just thinking about how annoying dooms normal sounds can get and how interesting it would be to have a package full of alternative sounds. They already sound awesome, keep it up! 0 Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted February 6, 2012 I like many of these sounds, keep it up and keep us updated. 0 Share this post Link to post
Doomguy 2000 Posted February 6, 2012 This I like. Will this include monsters as well? 0 Share this post Link to post

BouncyTEM Posted February 7, 2012 Shotgun sound syncs perfectly in-game. I do intend to do monsters. New sounds! http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3238714/elevator.mp3 <- DSPSTART, DSSTNMOV, DSPSTOP replacement. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3238714/teleport.mp3 <- DSTELEPT replacement. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3238714/punch.mp3 <- DSPUNCH replacement. 0 Share this post Link to post
PRIMEVAL Posted February 7, 2012 After watching the animation, I noticed the original sound is actually SLOWER than the sprite animation, so I guess your sound does fit X) Also, I really like these new sounds, too. Keep it up! 0 Share this post Link to post
Gadbury Posted February 8, 2012 Is there some way to package up the sounds for distribution and host them somewhere? How long will the files stay available on dropbox? Be a shame to lose access to such stuff. 0 Share this post Link to post
BouncyTEM Posted February 8, 2012 They'll stay on dropbox as long as I want to keep them there. No worries in that regard. :> http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3238714/AltSound.rar and here's a working test wad of all the sounds thus far. 0 Share this post Link to post
Urban Space Cowboy Posted February 8, 2012 The test WAD has WAV files directly embedded into it, that's never going to work with vanilla Doom no matter what sample rate you use. Did you test with any port other than zdoom? Never mind. Here's a converted WAD, sounds are now 8-bit and mono but still either 44100 or 48000 Hz depending how they were originally. 0 Share this post Link to post
BouncyTEM Posted February 9, 2012 It's not the finished one. I don't intend to convert for vanilla until it's finished. No point constantly re-hashing two versions over and over again while it's WIP, to my eyes. :\ Thanks for making one, though. 0 Share this post Link to post
BouncyTEM Posted February 18, 2012 New sounds! Specifically, the BFG's. :3 0 Share this post Link to post
