Most atmospheric WADs?

Which WADs are the most atmospheric in your opinion?

Maybe you think I'm a fool, but my winner is Stronghold: On the edge of Chaos. That lot of special stuff and the music gives me a fantastic feeling.

If I had to pick just one, I'd have to go with Sunder. Each map has a different, equally unique and intriguing atmosphere.

Nice to see some love for System Vices.

Only problem I'm aware of is with Doom Resurrection, and it is easily fixed.

I'm not sure how that didn't trigger errors with the version current at the time as well.


On topic: that first level in the original Aliens TC.

Espi's level from Eternal Doom IV demo, MAP27: The Shrine, is easily the most atmospheric Doom level I've ever played.

Sacrament MAP13 and nothing comes close to it. Dark, eerie atmosphere + music by Necrophorus = YES. The outside world didn't exist while I was playing this map.

Yeaah, that map's fantastic.

Valkiriforce's Sleeping Spirits (from Reverie) has a great "dark and stormy night" vibe (just make sure you play it with the AV bug)
