Reisal Posted March 4, 2012 As of today clicking the SLADE icon to fire it up doesn't load it up but I see slade.exe in task manager, atop loading multiple times and wasting memory. I don't know why it's doing this but I'd like this issue to be solved if anyone can help. 0 Share this post Link to post
HavoX Posted March 4, 2012 Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling it? 0 Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted March 4, 2012 I installed it manually, and even removing the SLADE files from AppData/Roaming doesn't help. The program decides to just sit in memory without the actual application loading for use. 0 Share this post Link to post
andrewj Posted March 4, 2012 Which SLADE? (the map editor or the lump manipulator) 0 Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted March 4, 2012 Official. I have gone to my fallback editor SlumpEd if I need lump editing until I get SLADE3 working like a normal program again. 0 Share this post Link to post
sirjuddington Posted March 5, 2012 What does slade3.log say? (if it's being written at all - delete it first before running to make sure it isn't an old one) 0 Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted March 5, 2012 The last slade3.log before I started having these issues was this, not sure if it would help but I am posting it anyway.. 9:44:12 PM: SLADE - It's a Doom Editor 9:44:12 PM: Version 3.0.2 9:44:12 PM: Written by Simon Judd, 2008-2012 9:44:12 PM: Compiled with wxWidgets 2.9.1 9:44:12 PM: -------------------------------- 9:44:12 PM: Loading configuration 9:44:12 PM: Loading resources 9:44:12 PM: Loading icons 9:44:13 PM: Loading entry types 9:44:13 PM: Loading text languages 9:44:13 PM: Loading text style sets 9:44:13 PM: Loading base resource 9:44:15 PM: SLADE Initialisation OK 9:44:27 PM: Opening archive E:\Doom2\357.wad 9:44:30 PM: Opening took 2826 ms 9:44:43 PM: Creating backup E:\Doom2\357.wad.bak 9:44:44 PM: Warning: Could not clean up temporary file "etilqs_0WbrIeOykOdhRcx" 9:44:44 PM: Warning: Could not clean up temporary file "etilqs_m48FAlhyovYrtOf-journal" Other than this I do not see any slade3.log in my directory at all when it loads into memory and not actually firing up for me to use it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Kappes Buur Posted March 6, 2012 In case you are interested, here is my log file.09:01:28: SLADE - It's a Doom Editor 09:01:28: Version 3.1.0 (r1165) 09:01:28: Written by Simon Judd, 2008-2012 09:01:28: Compiled with wxWidgets 2.9.1 09:01:28: -------------------------------- 09:01:28: Loading configuration 09:01:28: Loading resources 09:01:28: Loading icons 09:01:28: Loading entry types 09:01:28: Loading text languages 09:01:28: Loading text style sets 09:01:28: Loading colour configuration 09:01:29: Loading base resource 09:01:29: Opening archive H:\PWAD_MAPPING\BRUNNEN3\brun3_03.wad 09:01:30: SLADE Initialisation OK 09:01:30: Read game configuration "Doom 2 + ZDoom (Hexen Format)" 09:01:31: Initialising OpenGL... 09:01:31: OpenGL Version: 4.1 09:01:31: Max Texture Size: 16384x16384 09:01:31: Checking extensions... 09:01:31: Vertex Buffer Objects supported 09:01:31: Point Sprites supported 09:01:31: Framebuffer Objects supported 09:01:37: Warning: Could not clean up temporary file "FXSAPIDebugLogFile.txt" 09:01:37: Warning: Could not clean up temporary file "PDApp.log" I don't know what's up with these temporary files, but they are empty. Usually, going through the reinstall process will fix some weird problems. If you decide to go that route, then I suggest installing Version 3.1.0 (r1165) which can be found at http://svn.drdteam.org/slade/ . While the map editor does not yet function in this version, it has a nice map preview. Just doubleclick the MAPxx lump. 0 Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted March 6, 2012 Somehow even the SVN versions do the same thing (load in memory but do nothing), and the uninstaller for some odd reason isn't deleting the files. And on a side note, Doom64EX is doing the same thing now...FML. 0 Share this post Link to post
Kappes Buur Posted March 7, 2012 I wonder if the Visual C++ 2010 runtimes got corrupted. About this 'installation' process of the SVN versions. I always use the 7z version, then un7zip the files into an appropriate folder and drag a shortcut onto the desktop. With Slade3 loaded, the task manager shows just over 42Mb used for Memory (Private Working Set). With a map loaded, this jumped to about 62 Mb. 0 Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted March 7, 2012 I have a newer version of the runtimes and most of these new games on Steam usually install something like it before actually loading. Now only if I can find the very latest on Microsoft's site maybe all this crap will stop with me. Edit: Version on Microsoft's site is older than what's installed. 0 Share this post Link to post
Acid Posted March 8, 2012 This is slightly relevant, as my Slade is acting up today too. It can't open up any wads or pk3's no matter how small. For example, I whipped up a five minute example wad and it crashed on me... 0 Share this post Link to post
Rambosee Posted March 8, 2012 Is it possible to use an older version? Maybe that'll help. 0 Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted March 10, 2012 I found the issue, it was Avast's Autosandbox feature keeping the application from loading. Adding to exceptions lets it load normally now. 0 Share this post Link to post
