India to test fire long-range missile

Recommended Posts

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-17751991

Edit:

Launch successful

"Agni-V is to meet our present-day threat perceptions, which are determined by our defence forces and other agencies"

"This is a deterrent to avoid wars and it is not country-specific"

Mr Gupta said India "has a no-first-use policy", and described the country's missile development programme "purely defensive".

VK Saraswat, scientific adviser to Defence Minister AK Antony, told The Hindu newspaper that the launch will mark a "historic day".

"Agni-V is a game-changer and a technological marvel. It is a weapon
which can perform multiple functions," he said.

So it's OK for Indians to boast and gloat about their missiles with a stated military purpose, without anyone in the "West" daring to make a single comment, while when NK fired yet another failed missile with a stated peaceful intent, everyone was oh so much butthurt? Still, kudos to NK for not backing down and launching it anyway. Take note that India actually has working nukes that they can put in the warheads, not fizzles. I so hope that NK intelligence steals their "peaceful" and "defensive-only" designs which were developed and tested with the tolerance if not the co-operation of the "West", and then shares them with Iran. If anything, just to help create a new counterbalance.

OK, I know that politics have little to do with righteousness or fairness, but this is really a hard one to doublethink, at least for me.

How dare you saying good things about NK Maes? The eurocops will take you out of your bed and beat your sorry greek ass until we crumble under our own debts.

Most funny is the fact that India and Pakistan were close to start a nuclear war a few years ago.

Let's just hope that test firing missiles doesn't become a trend in most countries.

They might be trade cozy, but it's a weird cozy, since their border is disputed.

Anyway, I'm cool with anyone developing missiles. Missiles are neat. :D

I know we haven't been best of buddies with North Korea, but how are we feeling towards India? I never hear of them other than our complaints about customer service... Perhaps we don't see them as a threat if we don't consider them an enemy?

And the only good thing I can say about Korea right now is that they made a good modern monster movie recently called The Host. X)

Dunno, maybe we could express some very cautious, undirected, vague and moderate concern, hoping that it's not taken "the wrong way"?

Yeah! Damn minorities.

Oh, was that sarcasm? Well, America is nothing like that.

Heh - their "cozy" relationship reminds me of a line from an old video game (this one - IIRC). "Let us embrace each other with nuclear arms!"

Launch successful. Well, so it's once more a matter of accepting that 2+2=5, and swallow down the doublethink notion that somehow nukes and ICBMs can be in the "right hands" (such as the USA, UK and Israel, all undoubtedly sane and infinitely rational) and in the "wrong" hands (the USSR, NK, Iran, China, etc.).

The only thin line is between "wrong hands that you can't do shit about anymore" (Israel, USSR, Russia, China, India, Pakistan etc.) and "wrong hands that you can still do something about" (NK, Iran etc.).

There'd better be one, for everybody's sake. A playing field monopolized by one system in a state of morbid complacency and infighting, targeted by shadowy entities such as "hedge funds" and "speculators" is much more dangerous than having a polar opposite kind of adversary.

Well Putin is back and he is NOT going to go for appeasement or hamburger diplomacy like the soft and weak Medvedev.

The job sharing agreement Medvedev has with Putin probably doesn't permit him to act tougher than his master.

If Putin would have been President of Russia last year when the UNSC green lighted a no-fly zone over Libya, it could have been stopped by a Russian veto easily.

Sadly, President Medvedev and the clique behind him refused to listen to Prime Minister Putin.

So here we go President Putin, again, to the unknown future.

To be honest I thought as a world we were beyond such dick waving as missiles for military purposes. But hey I guess India can join the party. Maybe join us to attack North Korea (China) one day and liberate them.

Liberate what and who? Manipulated or not these countries have a strong support from the population, despite how medias depict the situation (lol at the China Spring that was talked a year ago).

If you enter in those hives with machine guns and have the effing luck to reach their capitol and neutralize their government, you'd better have means to strenghten law enforcement at his maximum in the whole country, so heavily populated you can't imagine how much it can really represent.
