That's pretty scary! I hope the injured will be OK. Also, why would you fill the small balloons with gas when they could have used helium instead? And yeah I know big hot air balloons use gas to fly but I still wonder why they would use gas for the small balloons?

Methane is much, much cheaper than helium.

This reminds me of my 9th grade science teacher. He'd fill balloons with various gasses then light them on fire in the middle of class. Good times.
