Mitt Romney once vowed to block pornography by installing a filter on every U.S. PC

Recommended Posts

Before he was the presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney was just a guy giving a speech, trying to woo conservative voters. In 2007Romney exposed some of his more extreme positions while speaking during a town hall meeting in Ottumwa, Iowa at the Hotel Ottuma. One such position which Mitt rarely discloses now is his deep desire to make it mandatory for pornography filters to be added to all new computers entering The United States.

In specific Romney said, "I want to make sure every new computer sold in this country, after I'm president, has installed on it a filter to block all pornography." He went on to say that he would do it for the children. The full video is in the left-hand margin of this article.

Now you could rationalize "Romney just said it once. Maybe I can let that slide." Except here is another video, from a different day, where he says the exact same thing. In fact, he begins his statement with the exact same phrase, "clean up the dirty water."

Romney can go suck a cock. Not only is the notion of blocking porn a violation of freedom to do what you want with your own computer, but imagine what else the government would try to block once their filters are mandatory on all US computers. I don't want the government telling me what I can and cannot do with my own computer, period.

Again, pushing moral agendas beyond what's really important to America. This religious tripe is, once again, just used to curve-ball the people's attention.

Yeah, he can suck cock so I can watch on my computer. I can see this "filtering" coming to a downward spiral.

I'd like to see pornography taken off television, as I take no liking to it. If one wishes to look it up on the internet, that is his/her decision. But I cringe every time I come across "hot teens and milfs" on the channel guide, its simply disgusting society does condone to this stuff.

How about this? Don't tune in to those channels. Problem solved.

You messed up linking the URL.

The most hilarious thing about this is that studies have shown porn consumption is significantly higher in conservative states.

Apparently even the title sickens him.

inb4 "porn-culture."

The one thing I dislike the most about porn in general is the rampant degradative language towards women which is all over the place. Supposedly this stems from the owner of Penthouse being one hell of a misogynist. I'd like to read more into it but it'd probably be hard to get the right keyword combination in google.

Mess with our porn, you're messing with all of us

I don't think that'll ever be a problem in Japan.

Oh wait, didn't Tokyo ban some porns recently? And you still have that genital censoring bullshit.

Ha ha, yes! Romney's Mormon homeland of Utah consumes more porn per capita than any other state in the US.

When you go to Japan the customs forms specifically ask if you're carrying swords or porn. They only seem to allow their own porn, and yes they censor all of it.

The problem with speeches like the one Romney made is you can't even tell if it's his real position. He might have just said that to win votes.

What? Why do they care if you have western porn, and why do they only care if you have swords as opposed to guns?

I mean even as far as coasting over.
Quite frankly, I don't even like the thought of people like this existing.
But that's just me.

That makes it either intrusive prudishness or a lie. Either way it needs to be aired out since politicians that make empty promises for votes are also part of the problem.

Where I live porn is only available if you pay for extra packages that come with explicit channels, not on any basic cable or wireless TV service offering. Is this not the case where you live?

The fact that he said that really illustrates how insulated some(read: most) politicians are from the real world. What a dumbfuck thing to say. It's the parents responsibility to monitor what their kids are getting into, not government. A true believer in the Constitution would never say stupid shit like that.

Man, I dunno man, I was looking at reasons to vote for Romney, but if he wants to block all my Pony R34, I just don't know man.

To be fair, his intention was to require computer manufacturers to install porn blocking software with every new system they shipped, and the filter could be turned on or off.

Still, it's stupid because:

1. The government should not be getting involved in the market this much, manufacturers should be allowed to sell whatever they wish as long as its safety is in the realm of common sense.

2. Any kid with half a brain can easily bypass it

3. It should be the lazy ass conservative shithead parents' responsibility to monitor what their kids access on the internet, the computer shouldn't be doing it for them while they're off hunting for cats in the neighbor's back yard.

4. It gets in the way of laws/removal of laws that could actually be useful to this country.

The best part is the look on the poor young guys face at the end of the video. haha

Cameraman knew exactly who to cut to at the perfect moment.

This is a revelation?
I must be the only voter who actually remembers things.

The implications of such measures are very interesting. Kinda like the Clipper chip that "every communications device and computer would have" in 1996.

I can already see the hilarity ensuing if said filter was OS and/or browser specific, thus creating a de-facto government approved computing platform. Guess what would happen to those that are not....

The only sort of filter that can effectively block porn is a watchful human brain. Anything automated is going to be fooled into allowing some actual porn to go in, as well as blocking legitimately non-porn stuff.

It's for the children? No, it's against them. There is one thing that is for the children, and it's called "parents". You want children not to be exposed to porn? Then you've gotta increase minimum wages drastically so it becomes possible again to raise kids in a single-income home so that a parent can stay at home and keep watch over the kids instead of putting them in front of a TV and hoping that some programmers will take care of them remotely.

Porn has caused nothing but emotional and mental torture in my life, it's a stupid vice and an extremely difficult one to get rid of at that. I would have no problem with Romney going through with such a plan (note that I am not affiliated with any political party).

It's really comforting to see that you don't mind more American freedoms begin threatened because you lack discipline.

hahaha! oh wow, that cheered me up. i just hope your sexual partner never asks you to watch porn together as foreplay, he/she might drive you back into a spiral of emotional and mental torture and addiction. i hope you didn't go blind from all the wanking you didn't even enjoy!
