Disney buys Star Wars, plans to release Ep. VII in 3 years.

If there were a new SW film, I'd really like to see it be live action and not animated. Even if it is animated, please make it look life-like in CG. I also would like to see the tone and feel of things resemble the original trilogy more than the prequel trilogy, since it's taking place after the original and not before. I dunno, the original feel was just a lot more awe inspiring, the prequels felt really corny, almost like it was a different universe, didn't really say "Star Wars" to me.

My personal opnion is that the orginal movies had the acting quality and the newest movies had more visal quality but not acting quality. With these new movies, those two things are combined..then MAYBE we will in fact have something.

"Star Wars" is for kids anyway. Doesn't bother me a bit that Disney bought them out. George Lucas is a terrible director.

I hope that it'll be a new character in the role of Darth Vader and not Anakin Skywalker. What will have happened to all that character development, then? Still, I can understand their reasons for bringing him back, he's such an iconic character of the series, I don't think any villain in the Star Wars universe can top him.

I hope it is bollocks...if they want to bring an old villain back, look no further than the novel where the Emperor gets cloned. Failing that, there's plenty of room to have some random Jedi turn to the dark side and take up the mask.

They could take a stab at doing the story of Jerec searching for the Valley of the Jedi, murdering the father of Kyle Katarn, and recruiting the Seven Dark Jedi to aid him in his quest. I would welcome such a story arc as well. :)

I hope they resurrect Darth Vader as a good guy, like that comic where he turned good and had white armor. Am I just imagining that? lol

Anakin deserves to have a monument/statue of himself built in DisneyWorld now. If that ever happens then it'll make my day!
A monument to a near-reflection of myself from a fictional parallel universe... How could I not love that?

Some sites are reporting this as a done deal while others are reporting it's a rumor. So who knows... But, as long as we're entertaining the idea of Kasdan coming back and writing the script to the second movie in the new SW trilogy, let's take a moment to reflect on this fact:

He co-wrote Empire, the second movie in perhaps the greatest trilogy ever. He gets the medium. He gets Star Wars. Hell, he wrote Raiders of the Lost Ark. If this is true, my knee-jerk reaction at the initial buyout news will nearly have evaporated.

He gets Star Wars.

Be that as it may, it's been 29* years since he had anything to do with it. Times have changed, people have changed. Just because he was behind the screenplay of the finest entry of the Star Wars saga means nothing to me.

The same guy who wrote A New Hope also penned the prequel trilogy, remember (or at least the initial drafts of those films).

Lucas may have penned the initial drafts of the original trilogy, but there was an awful lot of smacking him over the head and telling him things were a bad idea going on back in those days. For the prequel trilogies, there was an atmosphere of fear during the production when it came to saying no to George. If we went off of Lucas' drafts Han Solo would be a fucking lizardman.

George Lucas is an ideas man, and he has great, general ideas for things. But when it comes to handling the specifics, he doesn't seem to know when to step aside and let talented specialists take the reins. Not anymore, at least. Being able to admit that you're not the best at everything is a skill that hundreds of millions of dollars have likely slowly eroded from the man.

That is true, Shaikoten. The thing about the original SW is that it was very much the product of people that actually knew what they were doing shooting down or altering George's ideas. He didn't have the absolute, unchallenged power in the 70s that he had while making the new movies. In the Red Letter Media reviews of the new trilogy, it seems clear that there are times during creative discussions where other people (Rick McCallum, Ben Burt, and so on) disagree with what George is saying, but the only power they have is to sit back and nod with a bewildered expression on their face.

I do think the point about the passage of time is valid. For many creative types, their best work happened when they were young and hungry. For some, it's an entirely different world after they've been alive for a few decades and made their millions. But I have confidence he can do very good work again. His track record is not bad at all. Not all of his films are legendary but I would take him over almost anyone else.

Also, still waiting to see John Williams' name confirmed on these movies. I wouldn't be surprised if he passed it up, but to be honest, the people that have been hired to fill his shoes on other movies have fallen completely flat, in my eyes. The Harry Potter soundtracks come to mind. Williams' scores are for the first few Potter movies are about as good as anything he's done and the guys they brought in afterward didn't even compare.
