file planet sucks!!

many gameing files are on the fileplanet servers, yet it sucks. they want you first to register. then they want u to pay to get faster service. i am sure they make their "public" server shity to get people to register for the personal server. i have to wait 29 minutes to download a file i cant seem to find on other file servers. it is just fucking gay! Other places do it without a line or makeing u pay/register.

I can understand charging for bandwidth, but the fact is that if it were nt for the individuals making mods (for free) Gayspy would have nothing to offer the public in the first place.

i would rather deal with adds, i am 263 in a line of 500. complete BS. besides i still have a 56k, and at moms the max i can connect at is 28k caus ethe lines suck! so if i paid it would not help. it is a totaly gay thing. i hope peer to peer becomes more common cause that works fast for me

I top my ISP's limit with only one server. I really like how you don't need to hammer the servers all the frigging time, only to be kicked out every 5 minutes. I don't care if I have to wait a 45 minutes line, not even a Doom3 demo is THAT important. I just do other stuff while the line moves on.

Oh, and please, I registered months ago. We have cookies in our browser for something, you know. Fileplanet is about the only good thing about Gamespy itself. The Planets are a different story.

I agree making people wait inline while browsing the net is ridiculous.

Oh c'mon most of the time is like 20 minutes max. And 98% of the times there's a fuckload of mirrors. Just do a ftp search with DAP or something.

20 minutes is a long time in my opinion. And obviously you can get the file you need elsewhere, but you'd want to do it because fileplanet sucks. Therefore, fileplanet sucks. =P

on the other hand it's not worse than 3ddownloads.

The only thing I've got against fileplanet is that you have to REGISTER to download a file. WTF is up with that?

No one's forcing you to join Gamespy. For obvious reasons, they'll want you to use Fileplanet for all the file transfers. And that's fine, because Fileplanet works perfectly.

All the content is out there, completely free for the public, but, as you might have noticed, there's so many visitors that you'll have to wait your turn to download it.

Fair stuff, I get in here earlier, I'll get it sooner. Sounds reasonable to me.

What they are charging you is the USE of the more expensive, dedicated servers JUST as you would pay more for a better ISP. Bandwidth costs money, you should all be thanking Fileplanet for hosting thousands of gigs for free and giving you the opportunity to make an even better use of their services with a minimal fee.

And like I said before, there's hundreds of mirrors. Just do a goddamn FTP search with Go!Zilla, DAP or whatever the fuck you want.

Too bad I'm not the one for searching FTPs, nor do I have any of those utilities...I just go peer to peer ;)

The young Internet notion of socialism is alive and well I see. Being asked to wait in line for half an hour for a large file isn't such a bad idea.

You probably feel very put out by it, but then again you've probably never seen a high bandwidth bill either.

If your DSL maxes out on speed from them, and they have 5000 people downloading from them at all times... do the math, add that up.

I agree with Zaldron and Orion. I mean really, it's free. And if you try later in the evening there's often no wait at all. What else do you want? Do you want them to wipe your ass too?

Thinking about it, they are right to some point. The reason I think they suck is not because of their own fault, it's because they're just overloaded with traffic. I don't blame them for it, but I still think they suck because of it, that's why I'll be getting my files elsewhere.

I think fileplanet is worthless mainly because it seems to be full of hopelessly broken links and messed up downloading methods.

Ex. Unreal Tournament mutators:
I wanted this one that seemed to only be available at fileplanet... so I go the damn place and click on the link for download. Well, it turns out firts that they want me to register first. Ok.. I register and log in, but now I have no clue where the damn mutator went. Luckily, I had the link in the clipboard so I just pasted it back into the address bar. Fileplanet forgets that I was logged in or something (btw, I have cookies enabled), so I have to log in AGAIN. SO, the decent thing to do would be to bring me back to my download, right? No. They bring me back to the goddamm main page again. So I paste the link in again, and this time they remember that I was logged in! So now I have to wait approx. 10 mins in line for this 30k .umod file. Once it's my turn to download, instead of giving me a link or something so that I can save the file, it tries to open it in IE and convert the file to cryptic text! Looks like this file will never be mine and looks like I am never going near fileplanet ever again.

You have to understand the concept of nothing can be earned for free without contributing efforts in this world. Sure their services are ridiculous, but I can see there must be a reason for them to be. The fact hurts, indeed it is pain, just get around them and find another way or place to solve your problems.

OMG LOL! THINGS SHOOLD B FREE, EVN THO MILLIONS OF PPL USE IT, AND THESE PPL AT FILEPLANET WANT 2 SAVE MONEY BECAUSE THEY DONT WANT 2 GO OUT OF BIZNESS! LOL! Take some Economy courses and realize that the reason you have to wait in line is because there are TONS of people trying to get files from Gamespy 24/7 and that costs this little thing called MONEY which people generally do not have a whole shitload of, so in order for Gamespy to be able to pay their bills, they need to keep costs down and still be able to provide a service to the general public, so quit complaining that you have to wait in line, be glad they are not FORCING you to pay for it...

Waiting in line? You people don't know the meaning of it :) Look at the British Queen Mum's laying in state, people waited in line for over 12 hours, outside, in the cold, at 4am, not indoors in mommies mansion :)

Or they could just go back in time to the commie days of Russia...

FilePlanet is the best! I rather spent half an hour waiting in line (while continuing surfing of course) then to unsuccesfully hammer an FTP site all day.
When the Doom III test hits the internet, I plan to wait in line for say 4 hours at FilePlanet. Because I know that any other FTP site will just be overloaded and won't work at all.

Good things about FilePlanet:

1. It's an all-in-one download shop for PC/Mac gaming files.
2. It's still free (and if you already paid for the GameSpy program thing apparantly you get your own server with no waiting time).
3. I've never had a broken link on it.
4. You're guaranteed the right to access a file, you just have to wait.

Bad things about FilePlanet:

1. Navigation is a little tricky.
2. You have to register to download. Get a phony email address for things of this nature. My old one from StarMail was 'yogurtswirl@homosexual.net'. My current one is 'deadnail@pimpdaddywelfare.com'.
3. You have to wait in line but at least you don't have to jackhammer an FTP for three hours.

Things that could be better about FilePlanet:

1. A cookied "Fifteen Most Recently Viewed Files" thing on the side.
2. If preference for download waiting lines was given for filesize. I dunno, maybe it is, but it's quite fucked to have to wait 20 minutes to get a 100k file when someone else has to wait 21 for a 120m file. Get the small ones out of the way. Who knows, hopefully it already does this.
