Just to clarify: you have to start recording immediately after the wad is posted, you can't be late for more than a few minutes. (apparently some people didn't know this when previous FDC was taking place)

Some Query's...:)
its saturday 12 jan at 6pm Pakistan time??
you post a demo and participants ought to record a "Fda" demo.(include death/fail attempts,or just A uvmax?....and post it here in this thread within your announced time?....

Looks like Pakistan time = UTC + 5?
http://www.worldtimeserver.com/current_time_in_UTC.aspx
http://www.worldtimeserver.com/current_time_in_PK.aspx)
If that is correct, then:

1) A little before the contest, a passworded archive with the wad will be posted.
2) At 12 jan 19:00 PKT (Pakistan Time), the password will be revealed.
3) Then you immediately start recording a demo on this wad. You will simply need to reach the exit as fast as you can, it doesn't matter how many monsters you kill or how many secrets you find. Don't close the game if you die, just press "use" to restart.
4) After you beat the level, you send your demo to Plut via PM or email.
Is it clear now? :)

Also note that your result is a total time of all attempts. So if you die after 10 minutes, restart and then beat the map in 15 minutes, you will see "15:00" on the intermission screen but your result will be 25 minutes, not 15.

Let me see, Taipei Time is UTC + 8. That means it's 22:00 for me to start the competition right? I have interest in this competition, I think I can participate since Final Examination is already over this coming Thursday and it's still a month's time for Chinese New Year.

I'll be working until 18:00 UTC.

Question: Can't we just do this on the honour system? Then we can all record our attempts whenever suits us.

I'm in for this. Though I can't play for too long as I'm off out for dinner. Hopefully I will beat the map :P

We Russians are more distrusful to each other I guess. :) We always have strict rules in our contests. For example, in 4 hour speedmapping contests we too set a specific time and the participants must make a few backups during the mapping process (usually one backup each hour) that would prove that they didn't make the map before the contest.

It's strict and inconvenient for some people, but it also results in much more "serious" and exciting competition I think. And I like the feeling of being one of the many people playing the map at the same time, it's like we are all connected or something. :)

Still, I'm not against your idea as it has some obvious advantages... I feel like it's too late to change the rules right now but we'll take it into consideration.

did we got 4 hours to submit our demos?
and what if someone starts map with cheat codes e.g iddqd, idkfa and understands the exit route clearly, then start recording demo....:+
now his/her demo would obviously will be fastest:(
how my Russian frnds can cope this issue;)

No no no, I was talking about a different contest (for map makers). In FDC you start playing as soon as you get the password to open the archive, and you send the demo immediately after you reach the exit.

easy as shiz:
dont post the password for the archive. let people PM you for it, if somebody cant hop in early enough, he can write it here, so that its clear and known he'll start later. When he has time, he'll get his password and start the challenge.
the only problem will be the spoilers on the thread tho.

blob:

But someone might share the map with his friends or something and then...
You can think about it this way. We will declare the "official" winner after the contest is over, but then if someone else records a faster FDA and you trust him, you can consider him a winner. Who cares about the rules anyway, it's your own opinion that really matters. :)
Kind of like some people might say that Kyle's E3M3 UV-Max in 2:16 is not a record because he used Prboom-plus instead of doom2.exe, while other people think that this is stupid. :)

Here is a short but quite challenging map you can use for practice: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11151

blob: yes. :) One Italian doomer that I know of is Walter "daimon" Confalonieri, he is a very productive mapper (something like 70 releases on /idgames), the quality is mixed but some of his maps are masterpieces IMO (1994tu map22 for example).

lol I also hope to have the Chinese to join this competition. Besides me, Qaatar and Evocalvin also Chinese, but I don't think they will join as they are inactive.

Well, how can I change it to .wad file?

You will need to unzip the file, you won't be able to do this until plut gives the password when the competition starts.
