I don't know what 1994 pwads you've been playing, but feel free to hook me up, because this looks like it could make for an interesting layout.

I agree, but I wouldn't say a 1994 doom pwad, but I do specifically remember playing a few like this... only brown with a few trees. With that hole in the center, I'd say its a fountain / waterfall pond with steps over the water.

This is what you would get if a tool that could convert 2D heatmaps/contour maps/CAD drawings to PWADs existed. Not the best levels onto themselves, but it surely would make for a good base to work on a theme, especially when modelling natural landscapes.
