I need music 4 my wad, any help?

Recommended Posts

What do you suggest as theme song for my map?
Is it okay to put a song with vocals?

are you talking about midi, or actual audio?

Unless you have mp3/ogg that fit the map extremely well I'd recommend going the midi route, less wad-bloat and I think it complements the oldschoolness that is doom graphics/gameplay a bit better.

For midi: There are many many resources out there:

http://www.mirsoft.info/gamemids-archive.php
http://www.vgmusic.com/

are the two best that I can think of. many mappers seem to like using heretic/hexen/duke/blood/abuse/descent midi, so bonus points for being creative.

There's also some noteworthy composers who frequent the forums, Jimmy/stewboy/etc will probably be happy to link you to their work. Also pretty much any of the contributors to this probably have a stock of midi sitting around somewhere.

For regular audio: Sky's the limit, you're on your own here :p

vgmusic is good but it takes forever to find at least one "Doomish" song. Most of the stuff there is so... arcadey? I downloaded the whole site (thanks TimeOfDeath) and have been slowly going through it, saving midis that I like and deleting everything else... Well, it's been over a year I think and I still have less than 100 selected songs. I dunno, maybe I'm too picky.

indeed you have to wade through a lot of mediocre tracks, but I find the occasional gems to be worth the trouble. I did a similar thing, dling entirety of archives, and pretty much have a folder of "will use these in a wad someday" midi, but it gets even tougher when hunting for a specific theme.

This site - http://www.justmidis.com/VideoGms.shtml - lets you hear the midi music without having to download it, you just click it and listen, and then click another and it automatically turns off the first and plays the other. Vgmusic and other sites doesn't seem to have this (OR AM I WRONG?).

EDIT: And then there's Jimmy's Jukebox with collected music from the best sources.
