How to make an episode selection menu?

Recommended Posts

Yes.

It's nothing complicated.

episode MAP01 { name = "Entryway" }
episode MAP02 { name = "Underhalls" }
episode MAP03 { name = "The Gantlet" }
episode MAP04 { name = "The Focus" }
episode MAP31 { name = "Wolf 3D Nostalgia" }
episode MAP30 { name = "Skip to the end" }

Here you go, you now have an episode selection screen for Doom II letting you start at any of the first four maps, or the first secret map, or the final map of the game.

ZDoom doesn't have a limit anymore, although if you have more than eight (IIRC) the episode selection layout might change to use the small font and a scrolling view (like inside an option menu). Zandronum is probably still limited to eight.

Of course. Use the example Gez posted and change the maps to MAP01, MAP12, and MAP21. If you want the last map in an episode to not carry through to the next one (i.e. MAP11 and MAP20), you'd need to alter the Map Definitions for those maps. If you really wanted to get elaborate you could make proper ending screens for them, etc.

Damn, I liked it more when it was easier to design a Quake-like start map, than edit the game menu.
