Guy who made berserker graphics engine for Quake 2 is now working on RTCW

Recommended Posts

MODDB page is more interesting than the mod itself. There's an obvious question with these "HD" mods that look worse than the original, what goes on into the brain of someone who feels throwing a bunch of filters and turning textures into a grainy, plastic-looking mess while also shooting down framerate faster than if you ripped your graphic card out of your rig is a good idea? And here we've got the inkling of an answer, with a project page that looks like the ravings of a mad man, starting with a demented rant greeting you with a picture of a new unrelated Wolfenstein game. The Doom comic has nothing on this.

Do we live in an age when people find it bothersome to write coherent ideas that they instead paste long links into the subject body as a substitute for fruitful discourse?

Didn't RTCW have some amazing multiplayer? That used to be crazy fun.

RTCW did have awesome MP but they closed that down and now people go on ET. It's essentially the same with more content but most servers have a more arcade-ish approach with things like insane movement speed, double jumping etc.

Also:

(like a Santa lol)

one man have to make a very brilliant mod

Now, he making same mod for our beloved game

It just started and lot of code will be writed

but it already look pretty awesome

it not ready yet

it will be done when it's actually done.

General tread

(russian speech alert. prepare your translator)

Wolfenstei: New Order

RtCW is a only true Wolfenstein ever!

I'm not sure this guy is older than about 13 or 14.

Also the "HD sounds" suck ass and aren't needed.

You'd be hard pressed to find any language in which stream of consciousness is an acceptable way to present your GFX-focused video game project. Nevermind the lack of punctuation, or spelling mistakes in the name of the game itself. A name correctly spelled earlier, too.

You might think you're saying "cut the guy some slack, english isn't his first language", but when you pin plain stupidity on being a foreigner... The picture it paints isn't pretty.

Isn't there a project for HD Doom textures? That might be worth our time.

Some of the ones Reinchard666 was working on looked pretty good:

But look at how much effort he put into those. Probably more than most official "HD" ports do.

The problem with Doom is that you're now mapping high res textures to low res geometry. No matter how impressive the textures are, it's still not going to look good unless you design new maps around them. Sector based lighting doesn't help, either.

Personally I don't think Doom works with graphics like that, the gameplay just feels iffy when it looks like that for some reason. Not sure what but it feels worse than if I play it with no graphics mods at all.
