Doom 4 should have...

I've actually beat the game, I know that Doom 3 had a lot of easter eggs and storage rooms which require a pass code, the secrets that I want to have in Doom 4 are like for example a wall with a different shade that acts like a secret door that has some ammo and health or something along those lines on the other side.

Those things ARE in the game, pay attention dammit. There are fewer passages with misaligned textures because it would look weird in a realistic setting but there is a ton of exploration in the game. If you pay attention, you can find the Plasma Rifle as early as Alpha labs and the Chaingun, a level before it, in that dark part of the level (where you have to protect that guy with the lantern), not to mention the countless other secrets that contain ammo. I know the game so well that I am always overflowing with ammo. They really fucked up the balance, even before BFG. 300 shotgun shells by the third level...

I really think that if Doom 3 came out this year ,same everything but with amazing graphics for today's standards, people would venerate it because back then there were still old-school shooters coming out. Today, people are clamoring to play garbage like Painkiller or ROTT2013 because they are desperate for that. Doom 3, while it didn't have hordes of monsters, was old-school in every respect.

You don't have to unlock all the ammo lockers you know, just try to do a play through whilst resisting the urge to unlock them.

Doom 4 should have an atmosphere like DOOM 64 and PSX Doom.... My main complaint with DOOM 3 was the lack of Hell levels. I would like to see a lot more Hell levels in DOOM 4. Because what is DOOM without Hell and Demons? Also, DOOM 4 should have an Ithaca 37 shotgun like the one from Aliens (1986). The weapons should feel powerful. :3

Doom should have metallic soundtrack, not some black metal gargling trash but something with nice catchy melody. Of course it should also have ambient music not not on every level or chapter. And have area specified soundtracks like in new syndicate game where in club it played awesome aspari extraction theme, but on only on this club scene. Also, make awesome marketing campaign with live actors. Original doom should have had one but ultimate DOOM had awesome radio commercial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUAhchRu_Js

Lots of gore and stealth additions would be nice.

Stealth would be ok but only in a few parts, for the most part It should be run and gun like game play.

I think DOOM 4 should have that feeling that we are alone. It should be a fine line between the PSX DOOM and DOS DOOM. I don't want it to be purely atmospheric, OH MY GOSH NEEDS MOAR CREEPY MUSIC! But I don't want it to be purely non-atmospheric either, OH MY GOSH EXTREMELY BAD METAL FROM 2000'S! It needs to be a fine line. :3

It would be interesting if more people tried to write a bigger and more cohesive chunk of what they'd like the game to be rather than a simple bullet list of small (often self-contradicting) features.

Ultimately I want Doom 4 to be a good game...we all do. Supposedly Doom 4 is set on Earth like Doom 2. It's not a sequel to Doom 3, but not a continuation of the original series? So I presume it will have it's own "continuity". The intro of the game should hint at top secret teleportation experiments done on Mars that have unleashed eldritch abominations from a dimension of chaos, pure evil. Take inspiration from Aliens, Evil Dead and Event Horizon...to name a few. You take on the role of the sole survivor of the initial Mars outbreak. The Doom marine is found completely insane, the result of confronting the forces of Hell. He is shipped back to a top secret facility on Earth and investigated as to what the heck happened. To make a long story short, hell is unleashed upon the Earth and the Doomguy escapes...

As for the game itself. Doom 4 should stick to being sci-fi horror and action oriented. There will be isolated monster encounters at first, later you'll face off against nightmare hordes. To combat the evil you will use the latest in Bullpup Shotguns,Pulse Rifles, Miniguns, Rocket Launchers, Phased Plasma Guns and The Bio Force Gun, or as the Marines refer to it as, the Big Fucking Gun. Of course, the Marine also has a personal weapon, a vintage double barreled shotgun and a Chainsaw. Also, that ARC Gun from the movie District 9 would be a great addition to your arsenal. Personally, I would have Doom 4 be a solo game and not one giant escort mission. It's just you and the demons.

The environments range from the UAC facility at the start, to the countryside and eventually into an urban setting. Somewhere within the heart of the city is the portal of Hell which you must travel through and into Hell itself.

Moving onto the monsters, I want the former humans to be undead lunatics. Similar to the deadites from Evil Dead, or even from The Exorcist. Sure they're fodder, but they should still be totally dangerous. For the demons themselves, I'm a fan of the original designs, Doom 64 and Doom 3. I won't go int much detail because it would take too long, but a combination of designs may just work. Anyways, that's my input.

There should be ambient music tracks for the more atmospheric and eerie sections of the game. And for the more action concentrated portions of the game there should be a more heavier, pulse pounding music track. I think theses tracks sum it up nicely for me...

To reply to Piper Maru, I agree with you 110% percent. DOOM 4 should be at it's core a mixture of Evil Dead 2 (1987) and Aliens (1986). They should just keep watching those two movies over and over again. And they should base the Shotgun off the Tootsietoy Dakota they still have.... :3

In my opinion, I think we can ALL agree that we want half of the game to take place in Hell. Let's face it, DOOM 3 wasn't satisfactory enough, because only two Hell levels, maybe one. On top of that, we had crappy looking weapons in DOOM 3. I want the weapons to look good. See DOOM (1993) for my ideas for the weapons. I liked the way the guns look in DOOM (1993) so if it's possible could they remake the original weapons but hi-poly models with high-res textures? And if so, would you be happy with that? Or would you want more? Personally, the only thing I would add to the original DOOM weapons would be a Pulse Rifle and a Plasma Shotgun.

Weapons could be themed by each episode. Each episode they look different (according to the theme) and offer a gameplay twist.

E1 features all the original weapons (minus Plasma Rifle and BFG9000) and are carefully modeled to resemble the originals.

E2 contains more futuristic weapons, introducing alternative fire. The shotgun, besides normal fire, can also fire explosive rounds, that are rarer than the normal ones. The Plasma Gun and SSG are also introduced.

E3 contains a mixture of magical weapons and helltech. The gameplay twist is that every time you kill a monster, they drop XP orbs which you can use to upgrade a weapon once, when you get a choice you get to choose between 2 permanent upgrades. the 4 slot contains a fast-firing weapon called The Spitter. On default mode it fires 25% faster than the chaingun but is also less damaging.

The first upgrade choice evolves the weapon in The Leecher, a weapon with life steal but even less damaging than the original form. The projectiles are fast-moving red orbs . A full magazine's worth of ammo gives 25% health back.

The other upgrade is The Soul Launcher which gives bullets semi-homing capabilities and transforms the "bullets" into homing lost souls but the rate of fire is slowed.

In the Third Episode the BFG is introduced (like in the original Doom) and is part of the Hell Tech weapons.

They could also toy with the health/armor system in each episode. The First Episode uses health and armor like in the new Wolfenstein, the second introduces regenerating shields and an overcharge powerup that takes the shields to 200%.

The Third episode contains rare flasks that permanently increase your life force by 5% each.

Melee weapons could be innovated too. The first episode has fists and the chainsaw(that can be enhanced with berzerk), the second has a taser, which does less damage than the chainsaw but has a 1 second stun, while the third episode has a Scythe that can be used for combos (like in Brutal Doom). The upgrades of this weapon include a life steal combo that gives 5% per combo or a shockwave combo that does less damage but becomes conical.

I got these ideas a while ago while playing Demon Eclipse.

Nukes could be an alternative ammo for the E2 Rocket Launcher that move slowly, deal a ton of damage and are rare to find.

I'm pretty sure the BFG9000 is supposed to be more powerful than a mini-nuke launcher.

The BFG 9000 cannot make explosions that will take up entire rooms.

That's what the BFG is supposed to do, although it wont kill every thing in the room it will certainly damage most of the monsters in the room. Also a Nuke Launcher would be a bad Idea because Doom levels have a lot of tiny rooms and you would end up killing yourself along with the monsters.

I actually wouldn't mind a few shotgun variants. A futuristic bullpup shotgun, a vintage double barreled shotgun and I would like to see that lever action shotgun from Terminator 2.

Shadow Warrior had a nuke kind of like that only with a bigger explosion.

Here’s what I’m hoping for:

As little as possible story-line.

Non-linear gameplay (But definitely not too ambitious, like an open-world RPG; good for other games, but not an official doom game imo. I want there to be different routes you can take, but without meticulous, and overbearing exercises.)

More focus on the Occult and Satanic themes; less Sci-fi. Needs to be a good balance of both.

A modern take on the old-school doom aesthetics, for example, I want the imps to look as they did in the originals (Sapient, less like lickers from Resident Evil 2), but photo-realistic.

re nukes: I don't think they're necessary when you have a well established energy weapon that fulfills basically the same function, already in the lore.

Agree. I hope they don't go too deep into explaining the origins of the monster invasion this time.

Not going to work. The more your graphics strive for photo-realism, the less spots your brain has to fill in and the more ground your story has to cover.

What they could do is do what most good games with great atmosphere do:

The surroundings tell an untold story, like the one guy who has killed four or five demons before taking himself out (Demonstrated by bullet holes, dead demons, blood and the self inflicted gunshot would on the dead marine) or the scattered belongings of a child or family that were murdered by the demons (Demonstrated by a torn and bloodied tedybear, blood marks leading to an infant skeleton and tattered juvenile things like crayon drawings and shit).

Thats a great Idea, it would add more story and replay value to the game
