Doomkid Posted March 28, 2014 Hello Deathmatch fanatics! I've been weeding my way through /idgames, trying to find the best 90's deathmatch stuff for the upcoming 20th anniversary of DWANGO. I keep finding maps that I like, but are just slightly under the par I'm looking for, however there's no reason these maps should go to waste! This is a page to dump all these fun oldschool DM wads for modern players to enjoy. Every wad has accompanying textfiles which allow reuse, distribution, etc. and give credits to various playtesters and such. Anyway, enough with the jargon :) Here are some packs I've pasted together so far - most of these came as one single map, compiling them just makes it easy to play online and is a fun way to kill a few hours. #1 - Melee Deathmatch by Jeremy Statz. These maps were made in 1995/1996, they seem like they would be great for about 4 players. 9 maps are present in this pack. Download: http://www.mediafire.com/download/zbhzj2gi0jhcmdc/melecomp.zip #2 - Compilation Deathmatch by Mark Anderson, Andrew "Dman" Orman, MIDIguy, Stealth, Rob Oshiro and Alissa Colby. 12 nice maps here all in different oldschool styles by a variety of authors. Download: http://www.mediafire.com/download/am6ldbx0nj5x52b/compi_dm.zip #3 - Kilowatt's DM Maps by Terry Duke, AKA Kilowatt. Very underdeatiled, but the gameplay is quite solid on these. (Uses a variety of old MIDI files, some of which are laughably bad conversions of great songs.) 13 maps total in this pack. Download: http://www.mediafire.com/download/r6tue9s97lyriq5/KILO_DM.zip I hope you guys have as much fun fragging eachother in these as I've had compiling them all together. I'm 100% positive that I'll find more maps I like, but don't quite make the cut for DWANGO20. More to come! 0 Share this post Link to post
dg93 Posted March 31, 2014 My Sharona! haha I like that midi from the first map in "Melee Deathmatch". MAP01 from "Melee Deathmatch" was very pretty looking for a something that was made during the mid 90's. But I don't like how small it is. I don't think it would play well with 4 players or even as a duel map. If you are going to edit this, I recommend that you make it bigger, especially in the middle sector and the route to the BFG. I'll check out the rest later. 0 Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted March 31, 2014 Thanks for the response DG, I hope to see more people trying out these oldies. The next mapset I'm posting is by an old Dwango user by the name "Timer". Here are 7 maps he created, they seem like very fun 1v1 maps, but could fit up to 8 players comfortably for a really fast paced fragfest. Download link: http://www.mediafire.com/download/5t5a8wbsrmv0kax/Timer_DM.zip Screenshots: The first 4 maps are really small, which I like a lot. These ones NEED to be played online, they seem really fun. Enjoy! 0 Share this post Link to post

These maps are good for its time, but I'm not sure if the majority of the "newschool" doomers would appreciate these maps the same way us old school doomers do. By the way, check your PM or go to my DMR thread! 0 Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted March 31, 2014 I think there may bew a few DW oldies lurking in the shadows who really dig this kind of stuff. Another potential community project idea I had was a deathmatch version of the 1994 tune up wad - Similar idea to DMR/Dwango20, but old maps getting a nice fresh coat of paint, rather than just selecting great old maps or making new ones from scratch. That's after everything else is finished up though! 0 Share this post Link to post
cq75 Posted March 31, 2014 Does anybody know what the music was in MAP01 of Kilo DM? It sounds familiar but I can't figure out what it is 0 Share this post Link to post

dg93 Posted April 1, 2014 By the way Doomkid, you might like this late 90's wad: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?file=deathmatch/deathtag/behetag.zip It is well designed and pretty big :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Unregistered account Posted April 1, 2014 Here's an awesome little wad I found from 1996 - Bacardi1. These two maps shown in meshuggah360's videos are definitely my favourite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSmkc2e_wF0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH5VkJB2x-4 The rest are pretty average. However, all I could find was this: http://www.doomarchive.com/download.asp?FileId=3438 For some reason, both the sky and music are different from in the videos - and, I think, slightly worse. Then there's this, cc_arena: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44w1ANkoBUM It's just a circle, which must make for some pretty interesting DMing as you can always see your opponents. However, I couldn't find a download link for this one anywhere. 0 Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted April 1, 2014 @DG93 - Ah, another deathtag map! I'm still not sure on the rules for deathtag, or why the gamemode wasn't officially incorporated into any ports. If you can explain it to me, I'd appreciate that. I still don't get it, but that map is really cool. @Joe667 - Great old DM videos, and nice maps too! I found the wad as depicted in those videos: http://www.wad-archive.com/wad/4bfee98407b19c6a80fa75b59da986e4 It's called "LBDWANGO" because it was made for the long beach server. It also has that CC_arena map in it. A very interesting mix of good and bad DM maps in that wad, enough goodies to be worth hosting a few of them online. Great replies! 0 Share this post Link to post
Springy Posted April 1, 2014 Those first two maps look familiar then again, I haven't had a proper DM game in a good while. The first map too me has nice visuals but I don't like the layout plan or that BFG placement though I can see it working out for a very fast paced game. I would have dumped some of mine here but there's only one of mine that I think is good (Arsehole) should note these are designed for two players. Anyway, as for really old OS DM maps, an old favourite of mine is probably the King trilogy (2nd in particular). Though I find they are probably more tailored towards duel. Should perhaps have a few games one time though I think our timezones are really different. 0 Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted April 2, 2014 I'd love to have a DM some time Springy, being in Australia often means really late night matches for me anyway. My name online on all 3 ports is Doomkid, so youll be able to find me easily whenever youre keen. I'm open to any and all maps as well :) 0 Share this post Link to post

But I'm free to do some DM at the moment on zdaemon if you guys want :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Springy Posted April 3, 2014 My names online are Springy for both ZDaemon and Odamex (prefer Odamex for duels/OS DM). Name at Zandronum in [TE]Reign. The time zone will be a real bitch though unless I log in early in the day. I also noticed that you spoke of a 94 tune up for DM maps, I say make it so as it will be quite interesting to see. I can think of a map that needs tuning badly (good map but there's a couple of things that are shockingly bad) but it was not made in 94. 0 Share this post Link to post
dg93 Posted April 4, 2014 Yeah our time zones can be a bit of a problem. I'm from the East Coast region of the United States, so we are most likely not going to be playing online all at the same time. I'm DG93 on zdaemon. I almost never use Odamex, but I do use Zandronum every now and then. 0 Share this post Link to post

Doomkid Posted May 13, 2014 Don't worry, I'll find some more OS deathmatch stuff soon. Last week, LB DWANGO was hosted on Zdaemon sessions, it was a lot of fun! It was only discovered because of what you posted, so thank you :D 0 Share this post Link to post

I think it was called Paul's DM (?) But the levels were excellent. I'll try to find the link. I think it is worthy enough to be in the Old School DM Dump thread. [EDIT] Here is the link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?file=levels/doom2/deathmatch/Ports/megawads/paul_dm.zip 0 Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted May 13, 2014 Thanks for sharing DG, I'll check that one out! EDIT: Oh, I've played this one. It's really good. 0 Share this post Link to post

Doomkid Posted May 16, 2014 Alrighty folks, more OS DM stuff flying your way at an excessively high speed! I called this one "RandoMatch". Created by Outlander, Reviver, Diego Garcia Lopez, Carlos Irigaray, Kimberley van Amerongen, Michael R. Cullen, Phil Mcewen, J. Callum and T. Ashdown. DOWNLOAD: http://www.mediafire.com/download/zaam4vlf7izpsnb/randm_dm.zip SCREENS: The first four maps are damn fun, 5 and 6 are a bit larger for slow paced strategic yadda yadda. You know the drill. Someone play these with me online con sarnit! 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Unregistered account Posted May 31, 2014 Woah, that last screenshot... I dunno why, but it just seems to remind me of Heretic. ... I may be too young to lose my marbles, but I think I just did. :P 0 Share this post Link to post

Not just yet, anyway. 1 Share this post Link to post
