Can the original Doom RPG be obtained legally these days?

It's not mentioned on modern day id's site in their mobile section, its website, doomrpg.com, is no longer functional, and I can't find anywhere to buy it. Am I out of luck if I want to try it out?

The short of it? Yes, considering the thread's title.

I don't even know if can find it illegally. I know a lot of older cell phone games have roms and shit lying around, but I though Doom RPG was an iPhone app exclusive, so I don't know if those are around aftermarket.

I remember I had that game on my 'Sony Ericson' phone, the fun days.(illegaly obtained of course)

No, it's for primitive phones, pre-Blackberry/iOS/Android, as it was released in 2005. It was a small Java applet.

It should still be up on a bunch of mobile game sites. Do correct me if I'm wrong, though. If only I could remember the name of the site I downloaded it from, and I'm not even sure if it was legal...

i remember getting to lvl 100 on that game due to excessive playing. the only thing i didn't manage to do in the game was to buy items to max out my stats. strangely enough, i remember the pistol being stronger to use than the shotgun, for some reason...

The weapons were adjusted in terms of efficacy due to the nature of the game. I remember the Axe being the must-use against zombie troopers and the Extinguisher a quick way to earn EXP via fire extinguishing. The Berserk acted as an inventory item rather than a pickup one, and it literally boosted your stats to oblivion

And uh, yeah, I think we should get some stuff out of the way and speak about

1. How it is literally impossible to obtain the graphics of the game due to it being compressed in such a strange way. fraggle managed to get the maps but if I recall correctly it was a bitch and a half to do it so
   
2. How cool would be a PC version of the game.
   

Because, to be fair, that's how every Doom RPG thread goes.

Why not just program a new one for Android? Make a Doom suitable for touchscreen devices, with totally different mechanics from the original version.

I've always wanted to try the Doom RPGs out, it's a shame they're basically vaporware these days. Interestingly enough, the same guys did make a spiritual successor of some sort with Orcs and Elves, which had a DS port of all things.

I love Doom RPG, i always like to talk to people in junction area to see what they say to me, also, the extinguisher is a very powerful weapon to fight against lost souls.

I have played original doom rpg many years ago and it was very good, I remember one level where you needed door code and you could find it by looking shape of the map, ingenious. I havent played doom rpg 2, is it worth playing, is it great step forward from first installment?

Question, how did you managed to obtain the textures? I see you're using the ones from the "low-res" version of the game (for those that don't know, there's allegedly a BREW version of Doom RPG with actual textures for the floors and ceilings and it has the original monster sounds

). Also, does the sentry bot from Doom 2 RPG comes from a game screenshot? The pixels seem to give it away

doom rpg java is all over the net. check out orcs&elves I and II and wolf rpg. orcs&elves series was really good. the only problem with java games in general was the cripple sound effects.

doom 2 rpg better than doom rpg?
i would say no. the humor is better in 1. shooting was more fun. d2rpg has more interaction, is more linear, has more cutscenes, a few new enemys and new colored versions. you see sleeping cacodemons in it!

i did review the java/ios games a while ago, in german language. did pictures which was a hell of a work with shitty emulators, collect trailers.

the makers of these games, Fountainhead Entertainment, was a machinima group around carmacks wife. i think they work at id today. talented guys. only doom ressurection for ios wasnt made by them.

try not to play the java games with emulators, it sucks. haptic and speed is the problem. try it with older cellphones.
