Not much...

Negative attitude towards anti-cheat measurements in wads. It's not really a common subject but whenever I saw somebody asking about it, the result was mostly source port authors and other people explaining how wrong and anti-freedom is that.

For Zandronum, the Duel32 servers contain a compilation of some of the better oldschool 1v1 maps, one of which is D5M1. It's a pretty convenient setup for public duelists.

Again, you can host your own servers on your machine or the Best Ever service with a little help from IRC provided you want to bother learning how to set DMFLAGS. It's not as hard as it might seem.

Yeah, I'd go with Best Ever.
It's the easiest way to host dedicated servers that last forever.
Until they do their regular server kill/update.

The constant fan-wank-esque over-discussion of the "lore" of the game on this forum also bothers me, mostly because I just can't imagine why anybody would sincerely care. Even the guys who made the game didn't care why things were as they were! The answer to all of those threads is always something along the lines of "because somebody at id thought it was cool".

In all seriousness, though, I find it rather annoying that some talented mappers waste their time and potential making Terry wads, an example of this being the guy who made that one awesomely detailed spaceship with a Terry trap in it.

Well, in their defense, some of the stuff they come up with is pretty entertaining. If it's entertaining and believable enough, I'd think that'd be a proper explanation as to why things are besides the de facto "Because someone at id thought it was cool"

You've gotta give those threads some slack, if it weren't for most of them, Doomworld would be pretty boring and empty, or at least, less entertaining and worthwhile than it is now.

I have a really positive view on the community mostly. I think the only thing that bugs me that I can think of is that considering all the wad output in this community, the Doom Editing subforum rarely gets much attention. A thread may pop up once a week and usually its a decorate or some other source port specific error. And even seemingly good threads get few replies.

I don't know, I guess id just like to see more "best way to make a vanilla 3d bridge?" threads, "how to make breaking glass / destructible walls like in Eternal Doom" threads, "best ways to use hitscan monsters" threads etc.

not that I really need to know, but it would be nice to be reminded of how these things work and that they exist or get the most up to date information on them. There's a lot of valuable opinions, personal experience, and knowledge about mapping and the source code that I feel doesn't get spread around as often. I feel there's a lot of really valuable information on these forums that get buried deeper and deeper with age.

- Anti-cheat measures in .WADs that haven't been tested properly

- People who ask about Brutal Doom compatibility in threads for completely unrelated projects

- The fact that all of the best looking maps have a monster count that is beyond ludicrous for anything less than 32-player co-op.

I hate how every Doom 4 thread has about 10+ paragraphs on why there needs to be heavy levels of gore in the game or it will be shit.

Also when people bring up Brewtle Doom (kinda self contradictory, but whatever) in somewhat unrelated discussions.

...And the Doomworld Facebook page, to be honest I couldn't give a flying fuck about Rumble and Co's Duke Nukem stuff because it ain't the fucking Duke Nukem fan page.

Maps where you constantly have monsters shoved down your throat without proper calm moments in between to allow for exploration or marveling of the scenery. Just imagine Doomguy's weapon bob, how it peaks, slows, and levels out, only to start again? Like that.

Well, that's more of what annoys you in maps rather than what annoys you in the community in general.

But I guess it still fits since the community makes the maps anyway.

Really? I spend most of my time on Zdaemon and Odamex since I'm a deathmatch-centric player, but most people I run into seem quite nice, or just don't say anything. Maybe 1 in 50 will be a bit of a douche, but they seem rare to me.

lol, I remember playing Zandronum DM's and this guy names MO-tropolis would constantly talk shit, I mean it was non-stop. It didn't take long for everyone to realise he was just an idiot, though.

Odamex and Zdaemon are both still alive! Just join the IRC and ask for a challenge, usually someone will speak up. Finding a DM on Zandronum is kinda tough for me honestly.

Overuse of "high-tier" monsters like Barons, Pain Elementals etc. becomes very repetitive and boring. Slaughter maps in general are usually boring. It's not fun to shoot and shoot 24/7.

I know what you mean, it's even worse however when a non-slaughtermap style megawad turns out to have some slaughtermap styled maps after a certain amount of maps. :P

Overuse of "low-tier" monsters like zombiemen, imps etc. becomes very repetitive and boring. Classic maps in general are usually boring. It's not fun to camp doors evading hitscans, or monotonously plow through non-threatening enemies.

And what better way to create a Doom map than by tearing out a lot of what makes Doom while leaving behind only mass monster fights and rising/lowering walls and few switches. :P

In my eyes gameplay variety is more important. :P

I dislike heavily detailed maps. Trying to do anything more than a table or throne in the DOOM engine might very well be excessive. I also dislike how so many doomers like heavily detailed maps. More detail than the id maps is fine, but too much just looks chunky. I especially hate overuse of skirts and gutters around base-y maps.
