Want to know what this warning symbol is for in this game

It warns about explosives or the Mothra.

I figured it looked a bit too strange to just mean regular explosions.

Well, it just reads "explosive".

I was under the impression that it was warning people to be aware that there is popcorn that fires lasers.

"ВЗРЫВНО" means "EXPLOSIVE" in Russian according to google translate. However, it also insists that "ВЗРЫВНОИ" translates to "VZRYVNOI", so what do I know?

So I guess it's just an older version of the explosive symbol, well that solves it then.

That's a transliteration rather than a translation. I think you got the last letter wrong.
