Megamur Posted September 5, 2015 This is really just a dumb little piece of trivia that I've wondered about for years. In old gaming magazines that had coverage of Doom 64, I recall mentions of the monsters being more aggressive, as in they had a tendency to infight more often. Was there any truth to this? I know there was a new monster flag added in Doom 64 so the level designers could specifically force certain monsters not to infight, but was the opposite also true? Was the targeting threshold of the monsters actually lowered so they had a greater chance of going after new targets and thus getting into brawls with fellow demons more easily? Or was this just crap the gaming magazines made up? Thanks in advance! 0 Share this post Link to post

Torturephile Posted September 6, 2015 I don't know if it matters that much to begin with. From what I recall, Doom 64 does not have as much monster infighting as the classic games. 0 Share this post Link to post
Dave The Daring Posted September 6, 2015 Kaiser would be the man to ask about this, although he's probably busy converting yet another console FPS to PC. 0 Share this post Link to post

Relatively many gaming magazines and review sites contained misinformation about Doom games, frequently the type of generalized hyping statements that weren't technically true, or other misconceptions. One example for all: http://www.doomworld.com/vb/doom-general/33664-a-treat-scans-of-magazine-review-of-doom-2-from-1994/ And then there were things like this: http://www.doomworld.com/vb/doom-general/10387-a-christian-guide-to-doom/ 0 Share this post Link to post

Kaiser Posted September 6, 2015 I can confirm this. BASETHRESHOLD was lowered to 90 in which the original games was set to 100. 0 Share this post Link to post
Megamur Posted September 7, 2015 Well! Looks like they weren't just pulling reports out of thin air after all. Thanks, Kaiser! 0 Share this post Link to post
