New Doom Discussion

Digital-Eel has posted an article entitled Around The Table With Doom 3, which asks a dozen or so game developers what they thinks about the new Doom announcement. Among the interviewees are Randy Pitchford, Iikka Keränen, and Rich Carlson, but what really impressed me was seeing Justin Fisher and Jim Flynn in there. If you don't know what Justin Fisher and Jim Flynn have done for Doom, then stop reading this and go play classic WADs until you figure it out. Nice to see that whoever did this respects the old dudes who for whatever reason didn't enter the FPS industry professionally.

its nice to see the heads of the industry discussing what is our child as sorts. This thing is being shaped for us, out of an image formed by many nights sitting up with a WAD editor...

According to some of those guys, DOOM 3 should not have DOOM(2)'s monsters, weapons and gameplay. So if this gets realized, should it have DOOM's name?

I think the Anon user (Funny Ideas) has a point. If there are all new engine, monsters, gameplay etc. Why not call it Trinity? That was the game that was supposed to come after Quake, anyway! Also, What Orkface sez is good to. Id must keep surprise, and not release anything before the finished product. Games nowadays get hyped too much before release. Doom jumped out of nowhere. Quake was hyped to hell, and people just came off with a unsure outlook on it. Do we really want pre-realeases (Doom3test1, Doom3test2, Doom3test3 etc.) spoiling all the surprises? No, of course we don't. That way, we can have our Doom, and eat it too!

OMG what an ass Cannon was in that questionaire. No wonder why Epic has such a "I'm better than thou" attitude and thinks MMP games are the future. Scheez.

What the hell was that? What was the interviewer thinking to involve Cannon anyway? One word answers where the average Doomer could write pages. His total Doom output was ONE unfinished beta wad, full of bugs and he even got interviewed for "5 Years of Doom"!!! I certainly hope he's more productive for Epic. (Maybe he's just shy and a man of few words).

you gave me the idea but I think id should realse a demo mabey 3 or 4 levels about 5 different types of monsters and some of the guns They should not let out every little bit of info about the game out. They should also make some new guns and make somthing better than the bfg doom 64 did so why can doom3

Sparky: For your information, T. Elliot "Myscha" Cannon released significantly more than just 'ONE unfinished beta wad, full of bugs'. Among other things, Cannon finished and released, for DOOM2, Diabolos (one of my favorite single-player levels), Grisha (a deathmatch level), Sleddog (a nine level deathmatch set), Iditarod (a ten level single-player episode), Masada1 (a deathmatch level), Odyssey (a five level single-player episode), Pazuzu (a single-player level), and contributed to TeamTNT's Bloodlands and Grievance, not to mention founding the idea for The Talosian Incident (a twenty level single-player episode). And, though I cannot speak specifically for the interviewer, I would think that having authored the immense number of levels that Cannon has, as well as his involvement in the current generation of computer games, more than qualified him to participate in this interview.
