Five Hardest Maps of [Mapper]

This might be a fun exercise.

Post a mapper you like who has released maps you consider challenging and whose works you are quite familiar with (preferably having played most if not all of their major releases), and list in order of difficulty what you think are their five hardest maps*.

Format:

Difficulty can be subjective, so preferably we'll keep "lol that list is stupid, Hairy Balls map08 is clearly Michael McDonkeyPunch's hardest map" sort of bickering to a minimum, but feel free to (reasonably politely) debate lists, of course.


*You can do yourself if you are so inclined. For the self-loathers out there, we can relax the "mapper you like" criterion in this case.

I will go the least expected route (and probably beat Ribbiks to it, hehe).

@ Demonologist : Agreed with your list, although I'd have probably swapped Disturbia and DR2008 map11.

@ [WH]-Wilou84: Nice list as well, though in return - I'd probably replace s226 with 27, heh. While the style of gameplay "Death" represents is miles away from what I enjoy - I don't think it's very hard per se, mostly because it's pretty short, so defeat never throws you back at the start with tens of minutes wasted. And "Afterlife II" is quite an onslaught that does a very good work on that account.
Basically, that's the reason why I chose to put disturbia in a higher position - it's long as fuck, and each restart is quite discouraging, esp. considering the fact that the first half is - let's be honest - pretty tedious and artificially prolonged thanks to all those chaingun shenanigans.

Yonatan Donner, author of the immortal Hell Revealed, has made a number of challenging maps, especially the mid-late ones in his megawad, but the ones that are definitely the hardest (from most to least, IMO) has to be the following:

1. Mostly Harmful (Hell Revealed Map 32)
2. Post Mortem (Hell Revealed Map 24)
3. Resistance is Futile (Hell Revealed Map 22)
4. The Descent (Hell Revealed Map 31)
5. Afterlife (Hell Revealed Map 26)

Josh Sealy and Darkwave0000's Speed of Doom and Resurgence are by far the most challenging maps I've played so far. Here's my top 5 for Speed of Doom and Resurgence respectively IMO:

Speed of Doom:
1. The Pyramid of Death (Map32)
2. Blessed Hellscape (Map26)
3. Poison Ivy II (Map23)
4. The Ruins of Kalnik (Map29)
5. Hais Temple (Map27)

Resurgence:
1. Eternal Redemption (Map30)
2. Breaking Point (Map28)
3. The Library (Map26)
4. Where The Poison Ivies Grow Wild (Map27)
5. Poison Oak (Map32)

Hmm, no Map27 from Speed of Doom? I hate that level so much, the central area with arch-viles you can't reach is just horrendously evil.

Oh ya, sorry I forgot about that map. Map21 of Speed of Doom was my 6th hardest map of in that wad. I don't play every map from pistol start unless I'm forced to.

I think many of Richard Wiles levels in Crusades and Slayer place you in a no room for error situation. You need to use the ammo precisely and health can be limited. It will be hard to pick his 5 hardest levels because many of his maps are just so damn hard, but also look very beautiful too.

Objectively, KS17 isn't even that hard, but it has a style of playing I personally really suck at, so I had to put it first. It's actually been years since I played any of these maps, tbh. Should I have a couple of PL2 maps in here? I don't remember them being as hard as KS maps, but i might be wrong.

I guess I'll pick me since I've demoed virtually all my maps. These are pretty similar in difficulty, so in no particular order:

◘ Escaping the Spiral Labyrinth (esp.wad map03)
◘ dholes (esp.wad map05)
◘ dib map26/27 (dib2627.wad)
◘ Nostril Caverns (esp.wad map31)

Then there's rjsloth map10/06 if you want rocket jumping maps.

Yeah I have never outgrown my love for Wiles maps, and indeed I dont think I could rank 5 of them either. I would say slayer map02 from a pistol start is the hardest, perhaps. I've played the monlth maps too many times for those to be difficult anymore, although I dont think any of them gave me the difficulty that slayer did.
